This makes so much sense! I can do a split on the floor but not a standing split muscels are weak from doing passive stretching only!!

This might just be because I’m an ex-gymnast but I found having to yoga blocks or chairs to have next to me to support myself a lot easier. It helps you focus on keeping the front leg straight and breathing. ❤

Strength training is sooo important! I really messed up my knees by over stretching and focusing too much in passive stretch, which without strength training makes it very easy to have poor form and cause other problems.

I am a 64-year-old female. I have been trying to get my splits for 3 years. I am pretty close but still not totally on the floor with the ability to lift my hands. I just found your channel. Can you point me to the yoga stretching/practice I need to do to finally be successful? I appreciate any help you can provide.

Pushing into it definitely is a bad idea. I starting co centratong much harder and my hamstrings and just fell perfectly into the splits one day about a month later. Hamstring on right leg is too tight to get good floor contact but that's a long term issues I'm working through. It ALWAYS feels like it's gonna rip no matter how I train it lol

Learn to relax your hip flexor as you begin stretch. I’ve seen individuals tighten and or grip that muscles stopping the front leg from lowering further.
