If you’re really adventurous, there are tons of sewing patterns for all kinds of bags. Being able to choose the fabrics and features for a bag is super fun.
I made a Tauko Delocalized bag a couple years back out of recycled denim, and it’s one of my favorites.

I got a leather messenger bag with a sort of vintage/postman-ey style made my a local craftsman as a gift when I started uni (many years ago now) and to me it's about a close as I could ever get to a perfect work bag. It's a great brown colour; not dark brown but not orangey tan, so very versatile & neutral/classic enough to look good with most things. If I'm wearing all black/grey/cool tones it might feel a little off but I just tell myself it's adding a bit of contrast and warmth :) plus it's got sort of softer shapes and rounder edges than many messenger bags I see but it's also not so slouchy that it gives too much of an undone vibe if I want it to work with a neat outfit. If it ever dies on me I will be so sad bc I know I'll never be able to replace it

I love my Lemaire Soft Game bag, though I wear it as a shoulder bag most of the time. I think the crescent shape is the best crossbody shape for me too, it just leans into the slouchy laid back look a little further. Most of my crossbody bags are only tolerated because they can be converted and worn in at least one more way. I have the Wandler Hortensia Mini that I really like, it can be a top handle for fancy but not formal situations. It has a somewhat interesting shape while still functionally being a saddle bag.

On the last point about the dichotomy between function and aesthetics, I rarely carry a bag because at most I'm carrying 5 things that can all fit in my pockets. One of the challenges that comes with that is introducing visual complexity into an outfit without mindlessly adding additional things, a topic which might be worth doing a video on as I don't think I've ever seen it talked about really.

I got the new Uniqlo : C Soft Puffy Shoulder Bag in red and love it. The first two times I wore it somewhere I got compliments on it. They call it a shoulder bag but it’s easily also a crossbody if you let the strap out. I think it’s a great every day carry the you don’t have to worry about hurting because it’s not precious. But it would also be great for traveling because the side pockets can hold a water bottle or umbrella, and it’s big enough that it can expand to hold the stuff you buy in places that don’t give you a bag with purchase. The drawstring top is really nice, too. ❤

Freitag were the 1st company that I can remember( 25yrs ago) used recycled materials, old seatbelts for straps & sides of freight trucks for the body, but I always thought way overpriced😮 btw.loved this subject. I love a classy crossbody bag from Sezane & Polene

Uniqlo U 25SS is coming out this March with their version of the round bag, it's like the budget croissant, so maybe it will be a good drawstring bag replacement. I like the drawstring bag a lot, I bought duplicates haha! It just works with most fits, and it's nylon. It's like the budget Lemaire Game Bag, at least the design team is led by Christophe and Sarah-Linh. I want to like the Uniqlo:C shoulder bag but the material is a just-ok polyester which is quite a dust catcher, and the type that will pill and snag for prolonged use, they could've just used nylon which is more durable - best to just get a Porter haha.

Can't go wrong with a good crossbody bag at all! About two years ago, I finally got my hands on a bag I'd wanted for the longest. I use it every time I want to have a little day trip to try a new coffee spot where I can sit, chill, and pull out the book I stored inside

I love crossbody bags especially for men’s accessories they are just utilitarian enough to balance the femininity of a “handbag” but can still be quite directional and a statement piece.

I have a Kanken Hip Pack I’ve been using for the past two years and it’s held up pretty well! It’s small but it has a boxy shape that helps it carry more than you’d expect. I’ve tried a lot of slings and cross body bags and found that too many of them were just too big not to be bothersome and this really ended up being the perfect size. My wardrobe is also pretty bright and color blocky so it tends to go with the fits that I need it to!
