Today I learned that most tax cuts we've been given have been to offset our inflation driven bracket creep, not to give us more money.

Why is it that the tax free threshold of $18, 200 hasn't risen for over 10 years? Lift it as part of the modified stage 3 tax cuts - use that tax cut package to look after the lowest income people only. Those high earners don't need any stage 3 tax handouts, what an obscene and unfair idea.

I think we should be able to offset the current inflation rate against our income from bank interest earned so if you are earning 3% on your money but inflation is running at 7% you should be claiming a 4% deduction as you are technically losing money but the government currently is taxing that loss making interest, so in effect we are losing even more. This might also put pressure on the government to restrain themselves from creating inflation due to unbridled currency creation, instead of punishing those who really have no effect on inflation.
