But is it only that penny that doubles or is it the following pennies double because if it's only that Penny the doubles you're just going to end up with 30 to 32cents depending on the month

Well. If you have the means to double a total amount each day, you wouldn’t need to worry about money or the choice.

With the penny theory, once you get to day 20, you have to turn 5, 242 dollars into 10, 485. In one day. That’s hard to do. Again, unless you have the means of doing it already, from nothing but you’re baseline, make the other choice.
It’s a lot easier to turn, say 210, 000 into 220k, when you already have 210k at your disposal.
