"*DONT ROLEPLAY YOUR NOT APPLY TO BE AN ACTOR YOUR APPLYING FOR A JOB*"
I feel that applies to alot more things 😂

I think that some agencies (nijisanji) specify that the audition video is supposed to be in character

Nijisanji is the one who told everyone to do acting for their auditions so that's probably why.

well this is news to me. I remember seeing that Nijisanji wanted an audition video as my character so I did the whole thing in my suit and pretended I was some kind of spy. It'd have been a LOT LESS embarrassing for everyone involved if they said to NOT do that.

If you can talk about blahaj and other random things and hold our attention, you're doing something right. It's still a job, professionalism, and being genuine still apply one would think.

I feel like this should be spelled out in the application form. I guarantee 99% of applicants think acting as a character is mandatory, regardless of if they want to or not, because they think they need to prove that they can maintain character while applying.

Disclaimer: companies like Hololive (basically massive vtuber corps) usually require for you to have experience being a streamer. If not, I still recommend at least streaming for a bit before auditioning.

Also, please read the contract and do research on the company before auditioning. I have watched so many so many companies go bankrupt and leave their ex talents in ruin.

Edit: I forgot to add that every company has certain things they look for. If you want to join Idol, listen to Rin. However, I’d also take his advice with a grain of salt. Also, companies like Hololive are idol-based companies and look for personas rather than your actual personality. They also like lore a lot since a vtuber is an oc “coming to life”.

Lastly, if the deal seems too good, look into the company because it is a company just like any other corporate business

THAT V-TUBER MODEL IS FIRE AS HELL LIKE GOD DAMN ITS AMAZING HOW THE MOUTH CAN SEEMLESLY TRASITION INTO DIFFRENT POSITIONS SO QUICKLY

Weird. Hololive’s audition form literally asks you to make a video in-character introducing your character to them.

On the other hand this is my one chance to show my amazing Spock impersonation to someone who's contractually obligated to watch it, unlike Jeff in sixth grade who pinkie promised he'd see it to the end, but then lied about having left an iron on in order to run away halfway through. I know that was a lie Jeff, you don't even own an iron, that Metallica t-shirt has more wrinkles than the ocean bed!

Makes sense, if you try to RP your character too much it comes off as artificial. It's much more entertaining if the person just acts natural because most of the time they end up being more entertaining.

got it, I'll roleplay for the audition, thanks for the tip

Simplifying the advice:

DON'T ROLEPLAY A STORY SCENARIO, BE A STREAMER IN CHARACTER THAT ISN'T ATTACHED TO YOUR REAL PERSONA. THEY WANT TO HIRE A STREAMER AND NOT A PROFESSIONAL ACTOR FOR CERTAIN SCENES.

Example of roleplay: scenarios where your character is speaking to a person, arguing with a person, voice acting so wonderfully that you should've just apply to a voice acting job instead.

What they want: A streamer that can hold an audience and entertain them for a long period of time preferably playing a game and engaging with the comments. Doing this all while keeping up a different persona that is detachable from your irl persona so as to protect your irl privacy and safety.

perhaps the confusion comes from Hololive’s requirement for applying, which states “record a video of yourself IN CHARACTER”. I’d assume that all agencies have different policies then.

Role-playing? How dare you good sir. Tis is my way of life. I shall not fake being ordinary for I am one who has been blessed by the skylights as I have received the blessing of that one God who does the things.

“You aren’t applying to be an actor, you are getting a job”

Voice actors with incredible carriers: “are we a joke to you?”😂

The managers probably struggle the most out of a vtuber agency since they not only have to do normal manager work but also deal with the vtubers they're assigned with 😭

I think the role-playing thing comes from the "in character introduction" in the description of the video for audition. (At least hololive has that last I looked)

Honestly I never plan on being a VTuber cause I mean that’s pretty expensive ( or at least that is what I have learned from her videos ) but I am watching her videos cause I practically just got into watching VTubers and watching her videos just make it’s so much better to understand them and I learn so much more about them :)
