You picked up on the basic theme of the lyrics: a relationship falling apart. The key part you're missing is the context of the band. Fleetwood Mac, just before the recording of this and the previous album, consisted of Mick Fleetwood (drums), John (bass) and Christine McVie (keys, vocals), Lindsey Buckingham (guitar, vocals), and Stevie Nicks (vocals). Of the five, four were romantically linked: John and Christine McVie were married, and Buckingham and Nicks were in a long-term non-marital relationship. Just before the recording of this album, both of those relationships collapsed. You know how they say great art often comes from a place of pain? Well, that's exactly the story of this album. This album was fueled by an unbelievable amount of drama, and it seethes with emotional pain. I mean, imagine having a nasty breakup, and then having to see that person again almost right away for days upon days in the confines of a recording studio...

This is one of the songs Nicks wrote in response to her breakup with Buckingham. Buckingham wrote some songs of his own, including "Go Your Own Way". The breakup was Nicks's decision, not Buckingham, and his bitterness about that is really clear in his lyrics. You guys should really react to "Go Your Own Way" soon. It would be cool to see you guys compare these two songs, and pit the two perspectives against each other.

PS: Any live video of these songs is worth watching to see how much tension there is on stage between Nicks and Buckingham. Sometimes, they look like all that's keeping them from attacking the other is the need to stay close to their microphone.

Stevie Nicks had and still has a whole generation in love with her

"If Fleetwood Mac could write "Rumors" on a wild months-long coke binge while they were all breaking up with each other than I can make it through this week" - Unknown... but oh so true. LOL

Stevie is her nickname, her given name is Stephanie. The guitarist Lindsay Buckingham is one of classic rock’s most underrated guitarists.
BTW you should add the whole album to your playlist. Pure gold.

Stevie Nicks....the only person that can be in a bad with her ex-boyfriend and make him play songs she wrote about him.

There's a comfort to classic rock. It's like an old blanket you curl up with on the couch.

Stevie Nicks is the only woman who can sing a song about her sorry ass man, make him play guitar, sing back up all while moving on with another band mate

Stevie is singing lead vocal in this, Lindsey Buckingham sings harmony on the verses and Christine McVie is blended in on the layering(and sings that part live)

As a formally trained musician, I was never into Fleetwood Mac, but I gave this album a chance. I was immediately struck by its sound, it might be the best produced and engineered rock album, it just sounds perfectly captured and balanced. Then I realized the songs are awesome and I've been hooked ever since

There simply isn't a voice like hers in music.

Like a heartbeat drive you mad, in the stillness of remembering what you had! The most powerful line in the song. So haunting

“Layering” before layering (and auto-tune) was a thing. two people singing together in harmony. Stevie Nicks & Christine McVie.

The 70’s were THE BEST time to be a teenager. I’m so, so, SO glad that I was there to live it and love it. It truly was the best of times. I would relive it in a heartbeat!
