What are the options and issues around NBN upgrading to full FTTP now?

How I think we should begin unscrambling the MTM egg.

1. Conduct full review of NBN
2. Any premises not in design and build stage upgrade direct to FTTP
3. Premises that does not meet minimum speed requirements or premises that are classed as 'Not Yet Ready To Connect' upgrade direct to FTTP if substantial works required to make usable on FTTN.
4. Infill of town fringes that were shifted from fixed line to fixed wireless, upgrade tech to FTTP
5. Towns that were moved from fixed line to fixed wireless move tech to FTTP (e.g. towns larger than 500 people)
6. Design rules to make all new premises FTTP a requirement
7. NBN to co-fund with business, local and state government to upgrade town centres and business parks to FTTP
8. Create a low cost for 1GBps services on FTTP, profits to fund areas where broadband is poorest for upgrades.
9. Target highly profitable areas that would benefit from an area switch to FTTP, profits driven into upgrades for areas that are not as profitable.

There are probably plenty of ways to move Australia to a pure fibre network, just need someone to start. What I am hoping for is that if Labor wins government we will see broadband upgrades after the review (e.g. $1bil for 500, 000 premises to upgrade to FTTP) and take a staged approach instead of trying to eat the whole elephant a once.

so my question is who voted for abbott/turnball government? did those people know the abbott government was going to drastically de-spec the NBN?

We need it but it's not going to happen. In 20 years they'll still be telling us "fttn" is good enough.
