Kamehameha had united Hawaii under his rule. But what to do with such power? Simple: make life better for his people.

What a good example for the problems of dictatorship and monarchy: You can be the most able king ever and your advisors the best you could want, but once you're dead, you better have a capable heir or everything you achieved may fall apart. But if you have to many heirs.. well... Europe knows that story.

As a kid I always thought the Hawaiian state flag was somewhat peculiar. So this is where it originates. Neat.

Also "a stable system" (Windows XP), not one riven by conflict (Windows Vista). Huh.

It's amazing how historically and culturally rich Hawaiian History is, despite how short lived the Kingdom was.

I'd actually like to see a continuation of these episodes up to the islands becoming US territory :)

As someone who lives in Hawaii, this was so incredibly cool, but... hearing the pronunciations actually hurt my soul.

Still, the intent was there, and you get all the bonus points, guys!

Molokai then went on to become an island where lepres were banished to. It remained fairly unknown, until the Flemish (Belgian) priest Jozef De Veuster landed there. He was admired by even the Protestants and eventually declared a Saint by the Catholics under the name 'Pater Damiaan' - Father Damian.

This is so fascinating! Thank you so much for making this! I love learning the histories of less well known countries and kingdoms, so this is especially interesting to me.

Interesting point about the Russian ship docking at Hawaii and about the Alaskan governor. We don't hear much about Russian sea ferrying in that period.

Kamehameha Vs. Oda Nobunaga is a (fictional) war I would pay to see a dozen times.

So, to avoid his ships being confused with British/ American ones, he designed a flag that looks like a cross between the two? Not sure I follow the logic.

Great job on these videos on Paiʻea Kamehameha! Your content was clearly well-researched, even down to the accurate illustrations. I wish others covering Hawaiian history always did as thorough a job as you did.
