Angry and grieving Israelis surged into the streets Sunday after six more hostages were found dead in Gaza.
Many Israelis blame Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to bring hostages home. The Israeli government has yet to reach a deal with Hamas to end nearly 11 months of war as ceasefire negotiations drag on.
“This morning, we are grieving. We’re grieving the death of six hostages,” said protester Daria Giladi.
“They should have come back alive. They could have come back alive. We need a deal now. They need to come back alive.”
Militants seized Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, and four of the other hostages at a music festival in Southern Israel during Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. The sixth, Carmel Gat, 40, was abducted from the nearby farming community of Be'eri.
The military said all six hostages were killed shortly before the arrival of Israeli forces.
