While you’re probably NOT the first to do it you are the first I’ve seen do it, thanks for the video wanted to know if it was possible.. I mean it should have been anyways since MagSafe is literally just a magnet surrounding the Wireless Charging circuit supplied in the original iPhones since iPhone 8

I've got an iphone 7 and looking to upgrade in the future, might pick up a poor condition xr for cheap and do this conversion. Awesome video though.

If you add magnets to a non MagSafe iPhone, it will charge as shown in the video. Be aware that more heat ‘may be produced and you will get very slow charging. In my experience I got less than 5 watts with a Belkin MagSafe charger, apple magsafe charger and anker magsafe charger.

Great video. Just to add though. It’s not compatible with MagSafe just the magnets. Since MagSafe standard has some data transfer and handshaking. So you would be limited to 7.5W wireless charging and any future accessories that use the data transfer for handshake/protocol negotiations would not work. I would assume the new MagSafe wallets with find my features won’t work. Just another thing to keep in mind if you want to “upgrade” your iPhone. This is so cool though. I wish more shops around the world did these kind of cosmetic retrofit upgrades.

Or just get a case for the XR that has a MagSafe magnets in the back. If you don’t want a case, just get some MagSafe magnets decals. The only thing that sucks is the “Apple battery pack” does not show nor add the features associated with using the battery pack. The XR will not show the battery’s percentage nor let you tell the battery not to charge at or pass 90%.
