I have somniphobia, not many people know about it. Sitting awake for days, only being awake because of constant anxiety attacks. Becoming hyper aware of your body so the sensation of being tired makes you hyperventilate.

I had Somniphobia for a while due to too many nightmares, I later realized is was triggered by stress, anxiety and trauma.

FUN FACT!

The horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is actually based off of the true story of a little boy who had somniphobia. Eventually he did sleep, but died while screaming about a nightmare.

I used to have this because my parents where divorced and i had separation anxiety with my mother, and whenever i went to my dads house i would cry and wail not to go to sleep. I cant describe the fear i had of sleeping in a place that wasn’t my home. It was so tiring.

Fr I used to be so scared of being asleep and sometimes I still am now just cos of the thought of not knowing what’s happening whilst I’m asleep but mainly other reasons that I don’t know how to explain

I used to have this. I had a terrible fear of sleep paralysis. I would pull all nighters and get very sick. Some therapy and now I’m better 👍

I struggle with Somniphobia. Every night I’m fighting to stay awake until I can barley move from how tired I am

I had this as a little kid. In my point of view back then when I was sleeping I would be vulnerable and weak and anybody could kill or kidnapp me. I even tied myself to my bed at one point in case someone tried to kidnap me, then cutting or untying the rope would wake me up first.

When I was 9 I kind of had this. I got paranoid to sleep because I thought something was constantly watching me. I would have anxiety attacks about every other night, and wouldn’t sleep until late at night. I’d practically freak out anytime I’d get tired. One night I woke up at 3:00 AM, and a cabinet door slammed in the kitchen and I stayed up for the rest of the night. Then about a week later I saw a figure standing in front of me when I’d woke up at 3:00 AM again (waking up at 3:00 AM was a common occurrence at this point in my life). Then one night I heard the sound of a whale in the other room, and I got so scared I ran to tell my grandma. She helped me sleep for the next few nights and things mostly went normal again.

Lemme tell how I once had the worst experience of somniphobia:

So every summer I used to go to my grandma's house for the whole summer and basically this is where it all started, at my grandma's house. So at first I was fine but one day I took a nap in the day and at night I had to stay up all night bc I was paranoid for some reason I can't sleep and then when I tried to sleep I kept having dreams of my imagination that someone is watching me a I stayed up all night on my phone and constantly looking at the window and the door and closet. It was the scariest experiences of my life and this kept happening and I begin depression but I kept this all a secret from my grandparents (bc idk 😶) mind you this was happening everyday in the summer and then one day (the worst day of my life) so it was like near 7:00 and it was ok until when I was on my phone I looked at my door and it was a figure walking at the door but only at the corner of my eye. When I fully look at it, it disappears this happened for a while and I started crying b I was so scared and I was speechless so I faced my door in my bed and I called my grandma through my phone and I told them what happened and I told them to come to me and when they did come to me I saw the figure all the way and it traumatized me. I will remember that day for the rest of my life. And then after that day I had to move out of my room bc I was too paranoid so I slept on the couch..( mind you I was 9 when this happened) I had a light next to me there was a window next to me and it was dark so I turned on the lights but for some reason I kept looking at my room door and I couldn't control it but that's when I turned on the TV and it all stopped but I decided at the end of summer I'll tell my grandparents that I only want to visit for 3 days or something.

Anyways back home: it was nice my life turned back to normal
