I have never soldered before but I went to home depot and picked this up with the butane a few days ago because there are a few connections in my cars I want to redo properly with solder instead of the quick splices I have on them. Thank you for this video. I searched for this Bernzomatic soldering iron on YouTube to see a hands on and found your video. Wish me luck.

As you realized, fuel-based soldering irons are ready to go in a couple seconds flat! If precise heat isn't a concern they're WAY better than electric irons. Even at the highest temps it's ready to go from cold to useable in literal seconds.

*A tip for new fuel-based soldering iron users:*
These are great for "rough" work! Wire connections on the car, tractor, etc. They hold their heat very well, too, so a burst on high every little bit will be enough heat to get the job done. You don't necessarily have to leave it cranked the entire time. This can save a ton on butane instead of having the flame burning continuously.

Further, try not to start the iron up on the highest setting. Like anything else, heat it up for a sec. Give it a sec on low and the same up until the heat-level you want. This will keep it in working order for a lot longer. Not necessary but it helps.

Finally, these irons really aren't for long, delicate electronic work (motherboards, etc). You can use it for that but you'll chew through the butane in no time if working on anything more than a few components.
If that kind of work is your priority, get an electric iron. Trust me.

These are really made for field work, those that need a wireless soldering solution. It *CAN* do other things but it's basically made for field repair. Know that going in to save money for yourself before being dissatisfied with it or buying a super-power electric iron that is a bit overkill for the job you're doing.

Thanks for taking the time to show the soldering iron. I was thinking about getting one from Lowe's to solder some wires on an old VW bus thats parked too far from an electrical source... Now that I see it actually works, I'll go get one. Thanks!

Using them every day for years I found the "Weller" without the spark start to be the very best. Let's hope this one will serve you well. A quality butane is really important as well. Having spare tips is important too as ea one has a catalytic converter in them and they do wear\burn out.

I absolutely love my gas soldering iron. Makes for an easy burning tool for leather and woodworking as well.

I've had one of those for more than 10 years now and I can say that it does everything it was meant for. I recently bought another one because my old one gave up. I paid 12$ CAD for the kit, 4$ CAD for the butane. It's smaller than yours for sure, but came with different tips and at that price it's a really good bang for the buck. The only downside I've found with those kits is that they run out of fuel pretty fast. The holding thank is pretty small and it last for about 8-10 minutes at full blast. For small jobs in the woods it sure helps a lot. Working all day long with this, I'm not that sure about it. It sure is a essential tool too have, specially for the mini-torch tip and interestingly the curved shape one would be really good for shrink wrap. I use "hot tip" for that, but that one could help. Thanks for the video and enjoy your new tool!

The stand is built into the soldering iron turn it over and set it down and it stands up all by itself

The trigger is the stand, it works quite well

Someone may have answered already I didn’t want to go through all of them. The blue switch is actually a built-in stand. It is positioned forward enough to allow the iron to sit with the tip up when not in use. Be sure all holes are oriented AWAY from the surface

Looks like it's a good little tool. Thanks for sharing.

This may sound like a silly question, but when you're refilling it how much pressure do you apply? I keep trying to fill mine and every time I do it leaks a LOT from the refill canister and drips all over the place; I push it down as far as I can.

I always wanted one of those
I think that’s a great addition to your toolbox

Thank you for your video. I just bought mine today to fix my hair dryers and my electric one wouldn't heat up fast enough and or stay hot.

It can also be used as a torch if you remove the soldering tip
