Repent of sins?

The exact phrase "repent of your sins" is not found in the Bible. The concept of turning away from sin is certainly NOT present in God's word. Different translations and versions of the Bible may use slightly different wording. Here are a few verses that capture the essence of repentance. Please note, each time it is used you can replace it with "change your mind" and it makes perfect sense, since metanoia, the word translated as repent, literally means "a change of mind":

Acts 3:19: "Repent (change your mind), then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord."

Matthew 4:17: "From that time on Jesus began to preach, 'Repent (change your mind), for the kingdom of heaven has come near.'"

Luke 13:3: "I tell you, no! But unless you repent (change your mind), you too will all perish."

Acts 2:38: "Peter replied, 'Repent (change your mind) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'"

Mark 1:15: "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God has come near. Repent (change your mind) and believe the good news!"

These verses highlight the call to repentance, or a change of mind, as an essential aspect of the Christian message. Repentance involves a sincere turning away from believing that YOU can save you, or that anything ELSE can save you, and a turning toward Jesus as your savior. While the specific phrase "repent of your sins" is not used, the idea of turning from the wrong way, to the right way is clearly taught, and is deeply embedded in the biblical teachings about salvation. Most churches today have fallen for the Satanic lie that you have to turn from sin (your merit) to be saved.

I’ve read that Jesus never said “repent “ but he said “change your mind and heart “

I would add "Idol Killer" and "Truth with Sue" to your list of recommended sites. They do a great job of exposing the heresy of Deformed, sovereign grace, 5-point Calvinism as well. Good job on your site EZsalvation! Keep up the good work.

Hello I have a question because my pastor is confusing me. He says repent of your sins and turn from your sin but he also says we are saved by grace through faith. I asked him this Sunday can we lose our salvation if we sin after we believe in Jesus and he said no we can not lose salvation. I even brought up John Mcarthur and Lordship Salvation and he said we don't work for our salvation. So is he just confused and just using that terminology because its everywhere and he is confused himself? If so how do I persuade him not to say that anymore? This has been bothering me for a while now and I don't know what to do. Any help will be appreciated so I can bring up this topic in the next men's meeting. Thank you!
