Hey~!
I've seen a lot of people struggling throughout their Maso Mode runs trying to figure out how the timer works as well as having it constantly glitching and bugging to the point that. . . Well, the timer does not reset at all causing them to lose precious time of their daily lives.

For this reason alone I think it is time to let everyone know how Maso Mode's timer actually works and to explain it as best as I can. . . WIsh me luck, because this one is really hard to push out.

While the gameplay mechanics and art, as well as the previously mentioned songs inspire people to try out the game day and night, what keeps making people come back to the series is the insane amount of replayability, either due to a different starting character or a different build that will increase your strength early game while having a few difficult spikes near the late game obstacles.
It is no surprise that knowledge is what carries a player forward throughout the playthrough, Thus, the more knowledge one has over the many enemies they'll be facing the easier it is going to be to see such things as but easy challenges to the point of not even saving throughout an entire run.

The amount of knowledge that both games (Fear and hunger - Fear and hunger 2 : Termina) provide to the player will get stuck to the player's brain, resulting in not being able to go back to a state where they didn't know how to tackle situations. This is both beneficial and a weakness from the game as once you properly know how to tackle, for example: a Prison Guard then you will not have the benefit of figuring out their puzzle fight.

Every single monster is a puzzle and it's up to the player to blindly figure it out to the answer.

Prison Guard Battle:
The question will still remain in the players. . . Which limb to remove first?
Is it the arm? (Is the Prison Guard going to be grabbing me in the first turn?)
Is it the arm with the knife? (Is it going to cut my arm or is he going to do it in the 2nd turn?)
Is the stinger the actual threat? (Maybe it's not there for decoration and it has a purpose to it?)

Once you figure out how to properly defeat such enemies, you will be able to push yourself forward more and more, to even learning how to evade them without having to get into a fight with a single enemy in your playthrough.

I had a quick look at the code, and the way it works is it stores a counter for the heartbeat animation, which starts at 0. It increments this counter after certain frame intervals OR on a screen transition, until the counter hits 6 at which point you die. The intervals are 999 frames -> 700 -> 600 -> 300 for the rest, giving a total time of 3199 frames, or ~53.3 seconds.

BTW Matias, I found out a bug exploit in the hexen in the orphanage in maso mode, if you enter the hexen and while you are clicking in one ability you cancel learning, cancel again to go back from the hexen but click any directional before it actually goes back, you still in the hexen, but you are not in the hexen of orphanage, but in front of Perkele, and you even get to save and talk to him and when you wake up you are in front of the train. LOL

i was able to get the timer to reset by killing one of the cocooned at the ruins of west prehevil. i was testing things out to see if there was an indoors area at sylvian square (nope, nothing but death lol), and when i killed the cocooned, it worked. im probably completely wrong about this, but sawing off heads might also pause the timer (but not reset) in some way. thank you for covering this btw! the strat for taking out an enemy to reset the timer is really huge for people to know :D

I remember those mallet guys also resetting the timer, I literally experienced it yesterday but must just be RNG as I had killed 2 of the, was close to moonscorching, it was at the place going down to the secret bunker

Wow, that hidden cache is awesome. I rarely shoot enemies, because i want to steal their stuff, but the cutters are awesome.

So this game have 3 days to uncover the secrets this wicked land holds within its darkest corners. What happen if the times out? Are we gonna die or our character will change to moonsorched?
