I started watching your videos because I wanted to see if I could spot your mistakes when I was really bored, but I realized that for the most part I can't. I'm a political science major a GMU and I have really grown to enjoy getting refreshments or even refining my history by watching your videos. Keep the videos going because I'm sure they help a lot of students and you keep the topics interesting. Very good job on all of the vids

Without being partisan, I think the architects of the plan at the Heritage Foundation supported a mandate because there is no other way to cover those with pre existing conditions and those already with illness. Those who support it would say it about being individually responsible b/c inevitable if you do not choose to participate and you get it by a bus, you still get the care and we all pay. Obviously it is an order/liberty argument.... but a complicated one.

Your arguments are so persuasive, I really don't even know where to start. You are a really, really good debater. In fact you are a master debater.

Hey brother,

1) Agreed the Tea Party said they would and of course it is not illegal. With that being said, they do not get to determine the reaction to their action.

2) Agreed. But again the action will always bring an equal reaction. This maneuver of demanding compromise on an existing piece of legislation in order to do a CR is a new technique.
3) IObama is realizing that compromising on pieces of exisitng laws for a CR would set a terrible precedent for future Presidents and Congresses.

Well done. This is the first time I've watched one of your videos and i'm very impressed by how non-judgmental you were. I love that you advocate self-education. I think many people fall into the trap of making the less educated feel stupid which only makes people retreat from what could improve them. You're awesome.

You are correct. I think the "other side" would say the GOP is being disingenuous is using the argument b/c they of course do not support the business mandate. They would also argue that unlike the business mandate the individual mandate is critical for Obamacare to work economically. Without healthy covered adults, the insurance companies will not cover sick kids with the bubonic plague. #devilsadvocate

I know this, I was just commending him on not allowing any political thoughts he may or may not have cause bias in his lectures. Many times, I have seen many good professors allow their personal thoughts to influence their teaching, and I'm glad Mr. Hughes can do it in an impartial manner, regardless of what the liquid troll thinks.

I felt embarrassed when everyone at my school was talking about the shutdown and I only knew what sectors it was gonna affect, not how it was created.

Gerrymandering has nothing to do with if a state goes for a candidate it only effects local house races.

Considering I am a dad and I respect women I would say hashtag ditto. Thousands of women (and men) are victims of incest and making a joke about it, is not a joke at all. Good luck in your path of life.

I would think the other side would say noone is forcing any individual or business to fund abortion directly rather the insurance company (which is private) is funding it. Otherwise employers could begin to pick and choose which services would be covered. What if your boss did not believe in blood transfusions, could they demand the insurance companies don't cover them? #devilsadvocate
