Wow that was quick. I've driven a Tesla and it's neck-snappingly quick off the line, so I can only imagine what the Miata driver must have felt!

I'm really into the sound of engines going ballistic, but you can't argue with the brutal efficiency of electric motors and modern battery technology. Once they double current battery energy density and figure out how to mass produce it, the days of gasoline cars are pretty much numbered outside of track use.

Would love an efficient way to convert an old Miata to electric. Such fun cars to drive, and cheap.

They should make an affordable electric Miata or Roadster. The silent nature of electric cars fits well with having a top down. You also won't be breathing in your own tail pipe fumes.

What some people also don't realize is that the power from electric motors is not the real issue, but it is the ability for batteries to discharge enough energy that is the limiting factor in making a really fast electric car.

I talked to the owner of the miata once, I saw him outside of an IKEA in houston. The battery if the miata is designed to last one race. And the car has gears. I do not understand why an electric car needs gears but he is obviously doing something right.

Omg, I can't believe how fast that Miata is.  Its ridiculous.  And the fact that it is so silent while going so fast is mindblowing.  If someone knew very little about cars they would think making a car go that fast would be easy.... when in reality its very difficult and expensive to do.

They really do have to refine the sound of the electric car as much as they refined the sound of the combustion engine in the past. Really, my remote controled toy in my youth souded like that !

It's super fast, I can't argue with that, but damn it make the sound of a toy. It lack an aggresive sound. It's like a lion roaring with a meow of a cat.
