What Todo did there was the best fake out I’ve ever seen in anime. Todo is a true team player.

Looking back I actually noticed something: this is the first time Mahito ran into divergent fist.
Yuji hadn't used divergent fist In any of their previous encounters, or even the entirety of this fight for that matter. This is the first time Yuji used it against Mahito specifically.
Mahito got tricked by a move he had no idea even existed. And because Yuji is the only person that even uses divergent fist (because it's technically in incorrect thing to do) Mahito has absolutely no way of even knowing it was possible.

The anime removing Mahito’s internal thoughts was legit my only complaint of the episode

I honestly thought that Mahito took off his armor mid punch so that when the punch connects it isin't a black flash (for a blackflash you need to apply curse energy within seconds of a physical hit, so removing the armor would mess up the timing)

Oh, I thought the reason Mahito took off the armor is because he knew Yuji was trying to force a Black Flash, so he waited until the last possible second to remove his armor and throw Yuji's timing off.

I don’t mind the removal the narration too much but I do wish they managed to include Yuji’s mastery of divergent fist against Choso. It recontextualizes what was the most crushing loss of the arc somewhat as Yuji would have lost decisively if he hadn’t thrown off Mahito’s punch.

In the fighting game realm we call it an American reset. You mess up your combo or setup, only to counter hit your opponent for flinching.

from the way things looked, at least in the anime, it seems like mahito expected to be hit with a 100% black flash so instead of reinforcing himself he actually made his skin slippery i guess is the best word to make the blow slide off and not make impact. Since this was Mahito's first major hit with divergent fist, and throughout the fight it hadn't been used at all, Yuji purposefully fell for it to catch mahito off guard and with help from Todo landed his black flash and instead of aiming for his unarmored body he strikes where the armor still is for a guaranteed hit

I understand the constraints the anime had but I really wish the anime included the manga explanations

Oh wow. As an anime only, I thought Mahito did that to throw the timing of the punch off to kill its momentum. Timing a punch too late usually recoils against the attacker and hurts their knuckles but timing one too early nullifies a lot of its generated force.

i thought it was because he wanted itadori to be surbprised and off balance for a sec so he couldnt land another black flash since that time yugi was almost hitting blackflashes on will like you do a peekaboo to a kid to scare lol

I had assumed it was too throw off a possible black flash since a black flash has to be so impossibly precise if the slightest change happened to the target it would throw it off. But then I realized he would have no way of knowing he was going to land one beforehand.

Whatching the anime, when deactivates his armour there's a purple glow. My thoughts were that he used domain amplification on only that side of the body where the punch was gonna hit (hence why he did it mid punch) to cancel out the cursed energy of the punch. And since DA cancels your own technique as well thats why he reverted back.

Throughout the years I learned that the most efficient way to enjoy this stuff is reading manga and watching action scenes in anime, you miss nothing, all the goodies are consumed.
