No, Digimon Adventure (01) was a great show, will always be a great show, and that ending was powerful because of all the implications of the story.

Theme-wise, Digimon Adventure put kids in charge of pets, that they simultaneously have to act as the parent but also friend of, and so they immediately realize the parallels between their own parents and their family life. That was a huge part of Adventure 01. So when they had to say goodbye to the Digimon at the end, it was like experiencing the Empty Nest Syndrome, but as a child acting as a surrogate parent.

Crazy powerful. Highly recommend Adventure 01, and to a lesser extent, Adventure 02.
