Mark Knight on the Toolroom Academy: "The Toolroom Academy is a new suite of online production courses launched in conjunction with Faderpro.

One of the reasons we’ve decided to launch the Academy is because over the years, one thing we’ve done successfully well is nurture talent. As a record label, we’ve always prided ourselves in developing quality artists – we've been instrumental in developing artists like Dave Spoon (Shadowchild), Fedde Le Grand, Funkagenda and Hardwell, from the early days in their careers. More recently we’ve been busy building the new generation of Toolroom talent – the likes of Adrian Hour, Weiss, Rene Amesz, Prok & Fitch.

Nurturing talent is what we do best, so we’re ready to translate and pass on some of this A&R knowledge with the Toolroom Academy.

Now we know that there are already a thousand online production tutorials that exist online. But ours are going to be different in a number of ways. Firstly – you’re only going to be taught by real artists – producers who have actually made successful records, released with big labels, who have really seen success in their careers. Secondly, we are going to get really granular with our courses. They are going to be in-depth, advanced and crucially - based around the sound Toolroom is known for. If you want to learn how to make the kind of music we stand for and release, this is the place to come. Finally – we know making music is not just about technical proficiency. It’s about creativity, it’s about the person – so we’re also going under the skin of some of our artists, to really find out how they get creative inspiration.

But first we’re launching with a course that goes to the root of what we do – the real fundamentals of how to Make Tech House, taught by Funkagenda. One of the most talented producers in electronic music, he is the perfect artist to launch the Toolroom Academy with."
