Vatsim UK - AFISO

This video is intended for new VFR pilots on Vatsim UK. It's a discussion of the AFISO controllers that are sometimes found online.
Thank you Daniel for agreeing to take part.
I'm not a real pilot. I'm not qualified to teach any flying or ATC material. I'm not endorsed by Vatsim. These videos are just a commentary on some of the 200 virtual VFR hours I have with Vatsim UK trying to research and figure out what to say. I use CAP413 and the Skyway Code for guidance to reinforce my experience.

Note, at 5:00, I do not notice the QNH and QFE are given the wrong way round. QFE will always be less than QNH, unless the airfield is below sea level....

Another excellent video on Vatsim. I haven’t been on Vatsim for a while, but your videos really helped me when I do. My last Vatsim experience Was a flight from Jersey to Sandown on the Isle of Wight. I thought I had everything ready and all was going well till I got handed off to a radar controller in the Channel Islands and that though me a bit. After leaving his airspace he asked me if I wanted a flight information service and I panicked and said negative, but now I wished I had just asked for a basic service. It’s funny how nervous I get on Vatsim. I think it’s that I just don’t want to make too many mistakes and waste the controllers time. Thanks again.

Thanks for this vid too, very helpful. The FISO talked soooo fast I couldn’t make out most of the time. Is it ok to ask them to slow down if you struggle rather than keep asking them to say again?

Enjoying your videos, very informative. At 5.15 the QFE is given as 5 hPa higher than QNH whereas it should be 4 hPa lower (109ft). Pressures readings have been reversed. Of course, this is not your mistake!

Another great video! I noticed you make an interesting observation (at 00:01:20) that “there won’t be an ATIS”. I wasn’t aware of a relationship between INFORMATION and ATIS, but it holds true for my local RADIO airfield. Do you know of a reliable resource that shows this sort of difference between the various services
