Η κοιλάδα των Μουσών | Valley of the Muses | 4k

Κοντά στο χωριό Θεσπιές, στους πρόποδες του Ελικώνα βρίσκεται η Κοιλάδα των Μουσών.

Η Κοιλάδα των Μουσών αποτελούσε από την αρχαιότητα σημαντικό χώρο λατρείας για να τιμηθούν οι Εννέα Μούσες που σύμφωνα με τη μυθολογία κατοικούσαν στον Ελικώνα. Κάθε 5 χρόνια σε αυτό το χώρο διοργανώνονταν αγώνες μουσικής, ποίησης και τραγωδίας τα Μούσεια. Ήταν τόσο μεγάλη η φήμη των αγώνων, που κατά τα ρωμαϊκά χρόνια τους χρηματοδοτούσε ο ίδιος ο Ρωμαίος αυτοκράτορας.

Οι αρχαιολογικές ανασκαφές στην Κοιλάδα των Μουσών ξεκίνησαν το 1882 και έφεραν στο φως πλήθος ευρημάτων, μεταξύ των οποίων είναι:

Ο βωμός των Μουσών
Το αρχαίο θέατρο, στο οποίο γίνονταν τα Μούσεια
Η μακρά στοά, μήκους 100 μέτρων στην οποία φυλάσσονταν τα αναθήματα προς τις Μούσες
Τα 9 βάθρα αγαλμάτων των Μουσών (δυστυχώς χωρίς τα αγάλματα)
Καθώς και εκατοντάδες κινητά ευρήματα, όπως επιγραφές και τμήματα αγαλμάτων .

Δύο πύργοι δεσπόζουν στην κοιλαδα των Μουσών και είναι :

Ο ''Πύργος'' φράγκικης περιόδου περίπου 2 χλμ δυτικά από το σύγχρονο χωριό Άσκρη Βοιωτίας
και ο τετράγωνος πύργος της Ασκρας του 4ου αιώνα π.Χ. που δεσπόζει από τα Βόρεια της κοιλάδας των Μουσών και κατέχει το υψηλότερο μέρος του δύσβατου λόφου Πυργάκι. Ο πύργος κτίστηκε πιθανότατα από τους Θεσπιείς λίγο πριν τα 371 π.Χ. (μάχη Λεύκτρων) προκειμένου να ελέγχουν έτσι τις κινήσεις των Θηβαίων.

Near the village of Thespies, at the base of mountain Elikonas is the Valley of the Muses.

The Valley of the Muses has been an important place of worship since antiquity to honor the Nine Muses who according to mythology lived in Elikonas. Every 5 years , music, poetry and tragedy games were organised in this area,the famous ''museums''. The fame of the games was so great that in Roman times they were funded by the Roman emperor himself.

Archaeological excavations in the Valley of the Muses began in 1882 and brought to light a number of finds, including:

The altar of the Muses
The ancient theater, in which the Museums took place
The long gallery, 100 meters long, in which the offerings to the Muses were kept
The 9 pedestals of the statues of the Muses (unfortunately without the statues)
As well as hundreds of finds, such as inscriptions and parts of statues.

Two towers dominate the valley of the Muses -

The "Tower" of the Frankish period about 2 km west of the modern village of Askri( Boeotia)
and the square tower of Askra of the 4th century BC. which dominates from the North of the valley of the Muses and occupies the highest part of the inaccessible hill Pyrgaki. The tower was probably built by the Thespians shortly before 371 BC. (battle of Lefktra) in order to control the movements of Thebes.

A very important place for development of the Western thinking and culture. Here Hesiod lived in the village Ascra, the first to write the Greek mythology, and the worldly attitude for ordinary people. He was also important for Greek philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Beautiful video! I have been there 3 times, and will be back.
