The Collision that Formed the Moon #Shorts #SuperMoon

How did Earth get its moon? The answer is through a collision with a Mars-sized planet when it was just fifty million years old, known as the Theia Impact. This collision ravaged the two worlds, with the resulting debris collecting into Earth’s only natural satellite, Luna, a.k.a. the Moon.

I thought I’d upload this today seeing as we’ve just had the #Supermoon

I was there when we got our moon. Pretty chill

Recently discovered large masses under Africa and Australia I think, are believed to be remnants of Theia.
It’s amazing

It’s crazy to think about.. if this never happened, we very likely wouldn’t be here today. The moon’s ability to regulate the tides is what made the earth a far more stable environment for things to be able to grow. So many things that happened that led to where we are now, and if even one of them didn’t occur, we would cease to exist.

One thing I have heard pertaining to this event was the idea of Thea grazing Earth, not colliding head on. This is why Earth survived the event relatively unscathed, while Thea was completely destroyed, and the remaining debris following Thea’s original trajectory fell into the Earth’s orbit and formed the Moon.

what would that trail of material falling back to earth look like from the ground?? a streak of lava climbing into the sky???

amazing and mind blowing to think that if this didn't happen, we wouldn't have werewolves

If Thea hadn’t collided with earth, would earth be bigger than it is now?

This is one of the most popular theories, but calling it an answer may be a stretch, scientists can't come to a 100% conformation that this is correct? Other theories are that our Moon was constructed by the left over remnants of the solar system, not by a collision of a massive planet like object?

And we're the only ones that have the perfectly circular moon in the Solar System. How convenient is that?😮

Always bad, , , when something rams Uranus.

At it's current rate of retreat, how long will it take the moon to escape earth's gravity?

By the way, it's LUNA, not LUNAR.

Interesting as it is, it’s nothing more then a theory.

Not catastrophic collision. Just a collision.

Why after the collision the remainings didnt fall to earth but formed the moon? I thought that earth the biggest celestial body would attract the remainings and the moon wouldnt form at all... At least that is A.A with his theory of gravity telling us

what is with the embryo bs? planetisimals, dwarf planets, proto-planetsary collisions at catastrophic speeds are not in any way shape or form analogous to the birth process of an organism.

Head on collision? So they believe that back then there were objects on opposing orbits?
