What is also interesting is the whole dossier surrounding the cargo of the plane. With years of investigations looking into what EL AL was carrying. Starting of with saying it was Flowers and Perfume, but ended with also depleted Uranium and DMMP (used in Sarin gas production) being present in the plane. The way the Israeli secret services and EL AL were in cahoots was mind boggling. How the victims of this crash were treated was unreal (mainly working class).

I lived about 500 meters from where it came down. The smell of burning kerosene is what has always stayed with me.
It strange that there are so many documents about the crash that are being kept secret.

I experienced this day myself after I was waiting at the Ganzehoef station for the metro to the Kraaiennest station. I saw the plane flying very low towards the flats and I said to my brother; why is that plane flying so low is it going to crash? I was told don't talk nonsense nothing is going to crash and then you heard a sound and you felt a little shock. Then the metro came and everyone stood there with their mouths open watching and to this day I will never forget this.😢

I remember this well, the engines fell close to my parents house, but they were flying in daylight it wasn't dark yet.

At least 2 kids from our school were killed in this crash. It was devastating. We never got straight answers. I remember the news saying an Israeli newspaper printed only criminals lived in that area so no love lost. Absolute disgrace.

I ve heared it on the dutch tv news broadcast. It was a nice evening until that moment. Here in Holland we call this the bijlmer ramp because the name of the neighbourhood is bijlmer.

I was 50 km away and saw the explosion. Our nation was in schock. There was no conspiracy, it was catastrophic mechanical failure. The pilots, schiphol airport and all people envolved performed admirably. With deep respect for all the innocent victims, the pilots, the emergency services and everyone involved. Blessed be.

was visiting someone in the building 200 metres from where the plane crashed, the noise was like a war had started above our heads, and then the explosion, and people jumping out of the burning building (was it Kruitberg?). Pure horror.

"today, twin engine aircraft such as the Boeing 777X surpass the Boeing 747 in both cargo capacity and fuel efficiency" - this is true regarding the fuel efficiency, however, is it not correct regarding the cargo capacity. the 777F (based on the 777-200LR) has a cargo capacity of 103 tons compared to the 101 tons of the 747-200F (as flight El Al 1862), but the 747-8F has an overall cargo capacity of 146 tons compared to the 118 tons of the 777-8F.
two more comments: One - The FDR was found, whereas the CVR was never officially recovered. Cleanup workers stated that they had not been alone on the crash site, but that there had been additional cleanup workers in white overalls with an unknown background.
Two - after the crash, the numbers of inexplicable cases of gulf war syndrome (muscle pain, fatigue, disturbance of memory) increased in the neighborhood of the crash site. According to EL Al, the plane had only been loaded with flowers and perfume. It wasn't revealed until six(!) years later that the plane's cargo had also contained 190 litres of DMMP.
To me, that is the most shocking part of the truth about flight El Al 1862.

Besides all the discussions what the true reason was that the plane crashed and that many where needlessly killed it amazes me that with a plane as we know now in such a bad shape still almost made it to save harbours.
I remember this crash well, my dad who used to work at Schiphol Airport as a mechanic with Transavia Airlines always until he died kept on insisting that losing 2 engines virtually at the same time by the one smashing into the other was virtually impossible.
We will probably never know what truly was transported and probably never know if it was a real accident or that it was indeed a terrorist action.
