Hacienda Yaxcab

Hacienda Yaxcab is an example of the many haciendas of the yucatan peninsula. Now in ruins, this place whispers back to time of the many large haciendas, growing henequen , sisal, corn and sugar cane from 1700-1890s. These large estates, were run primarily with indentured workers, who were housed on the estate. Each have their own story and fate, yet either through the depletion of the land, or changing market demands, they each met a similar fate. A few have since been turned into hotels, the majority are being taken back by the earth, another example of all things changing.
