1️⃣ SS FF Blow Blow - My favourite breathing exercise for singers. Do this before your vocal warm up to help you focus and wake up the diaphragm and abdominal area. I do this exercise with all my students at the start of each lesson, as it calms them down every time.

2️⃣ HISSING 20 Seconds - Breathing hissing exercise on a 20 second sustained hiss to help develop breath support.

3️⃣ MODIFED FARINELLI - This is a simplified modified version of the Farinelli breathing exercise. Learn how to manage your breath with this classic breathing exercise. See instructions on screen and below.

STEPS TO FOLLOW FOR MODIFIED FARINELLI:
1. POSTURE & INHALE: Before you begin make sure you have good posture, with feet hip width apart, standing tall with a slightly raised sternum, keeping the shoulders down at all times. Inhale silently through the mouth. You should be expanding around the abdominal area and ribcage and possibly the back.

2. SUSPEND: Suspend means to keep the ribcage in an expanded position, not allowing it to collapse. Basically it means staying in the inspiratory position for longer. When you suspend don't hold your breath, by closing the throat, keep the throat open. The suspensions cause the diaphragm to ascend slower than usual, creating a steady stream of air. This is the secret to singing long phrases while singing.

3. EXHALE: Keep the sternum raised as you exhale. The belly button will gradually move toward your spine. If you run out of air, pull the belly button in slightly. For the next breathing cycle, release the abdominals (belly button area) and inhale silently again.

This breathing technique will also help relieve anxiety if done correctly. Try lying on your back with your knees bent and place a book on your belly button and then do the exercise.

I’ve always had shortness of breath despite getting regular exercise and singing for few months now. Just doing this I already feel like I’m dying. I think it’s the fact that I needed to hold in the breath. Plus I can’t seem to hold or breath out 10 seconds either. 😢 it seems too long. I want to learn support for singing but to feel like I’m dying discourages me from practicing breathing. What can I do? I wouldn’t say this is anxiety either. I’m very relaxed when doing this. I just have a hard time sustaining the breath.

Plz make 40 sec and 50 sec exhale breathing previous ones are so helpful

I've been trying these excercises for a couple days but I still can't last the 20 seconds. I'm confused whether my stomach area should contract or push out as I'm exhaling as it feels wrong exhaling whilst im trying to push out. And sometimes I feel no engagement

I honestly have a problem not on this exercise but when im singing very fast songs or going high, I cannot support it and i go sharp no loss of breath. I have no idea why am i still like this. I wonder what exercise should I do... .. im really so confused

Can you give us a little more breathing time within the first and second exercises, i feel like i'm sort of rushing to breathe between the exercises, thank you for your hard work! 😃
