If Rivers Carve Canyons, Why Are They So SMALL?

Geologist Dr. John Whitmore discusses some of the catastrophic processes that reshaped our planet's surface after the Flood. From the documentary "Is Genesis History?: Mountains After the Flood." Watch the full film on YouTube.

Transcript:
my suspicion is this Canyon has been cut by some catastrophe in the Years After the flood we see these relatively small streams in relatively large valleys or large Canyons even the biggest river we have in the United States the Mississippi even though it's a mile wide in places it sits in a valley that's 100 miles wide and we call those underfit streams underfit valleys or underfit canyons and it means that the river R flowing through them does not quite match the immense size of the Valley of the canyon my guess is 90% of the Canyons and valleys around the world are underfit and so we think that as mountains were lifted up and as erosion in the form of uh flash floods in the form of mud flows in the form of glaciation and so on a lot of those processes could work on Canyons like this and enlarge them pretty quickly

In Michigan, on the west side of the state, there's the Grand Valley, Grand River, Rouge River, and other smaller waterways that feed into Lake Michigan. Grand Valley is the leftover trailway of the Great Glazier that carved up Lower Michigan. Throughout the river valley theres plenty of old beach shoreline hills, small lakes, and large bolder rocks that had been pushed, and broken up by the glazier. Viewing the valley from high ground, it must have been an awesome sight when the valley was full of water with rapids roaring to the Great Lake long ago!

"My suspicion" Wow what great science!

I guess the fact that millions of years passed before man appeared is just unacceptable to some…

It was formed a millenia ago, while it was all underwater. Youll notice a lot of canyons and valleys are formed underwater, those we overlook. Then we see the same exact formation on dry land and assume it had to always be dry. No, I believe the oceans and their currents are the greatest sculptors of the landscape.

There's a 12 video series titled "How Aronra disproves Noah's flood" that covers the scientific evidence refuting this flood myth. The evidence against genesis myths is overwhelming and undeniable.

Imagine a world that has been completely flooded and nearly half of it has turned to Ice. Then the waters begin to recede too the ocean as the ocean cooled, and then mountains slowly begin to rise up from isostacy. It would leave massive pockets of water on the continents (like the great plains, lake Missoula and the great lakes). And as the mountains rose and the ice melted, that would further alter the remaining massive lakes causing overflows and also further alter the surface itself. THAT is what made the Grand Canyon.

It's just geology, no Noah to be seen here

Good thing your suspicions don’t count for much.

But if you add a billion years to the scenario, all the "underfit" problems go away. The "underfit" classification is all in that guy's head.

Those wide river valleys like the Mississippi are caused by the river meanders over long periods of time. The river drops sediment raising the bottom, then the flow finds a different route, drops more sediment, finds another route again and again. The explanation is pretty simple. You would think these guys would know that.

Water alone could not
But water mixed with Mud
and Rock Could act as
a SawBlade. Sanding its way
Thru the Rock like a
Tumbler does rounding and
Polishing stones.
Time and Flow….
Carve it down and channel
begins to form deeper
And deeper and narrower

Even as a child I never bought into the story that a little seam cut those large canyons. It was just too obvious a lie.

To everyone taking this nonsense seriously, thanks for the laughs. Seriously, you're hilarious.

Incised meanders are the giveaway that the canyons aren't made by streams. The erosion is on the wrong side of the bends

I live on the Mississippi River in the bluff country of SE MN. The bluffs on each side are about 600 feet high. The valley is about 2.5 miles wide. The river is only a couple hundred yards wide.

Absolutely. Right after the flood those mountains were all soft, everything was soaked and easily eroded. I go through places like that all the time and one particular place Id like these guys to go is NE utah just west of Henefer, Utah. There are places where they cut away the mountain for the highway and within the rock are those round smooth river rocks that are common in the rockies. Theyre hardened WITHIN the other rock!! Its so bizarre to me how evolutionists could not take notice to this! They would say that the rock they were within was as old as the round river rocks if you showed them samples separately. Thats impossible because its obvious the round rocks were there long before and they got buried in a catastrophic event!

Try thinking in millions of years not a couple of thousand and your gray matter might start to get a clue

<sigh> We can try, but it's difficult to fix wanton ignorance.
