That's never been my experience and I've been part of the goth scene for 20 years, blond and red have always been 2 staple hair colours for goths, its always been blond, red or black. The only thing that would get you tagged a poser is calling yourself a goth and having nothing to do with the music.
I've no idea where this comes from if thats what the scene out there is like now...but my guess would be the Internet, its far too focused on what a person looks like rather than their participation in the subculture.
