Let's all give a round applause to Jerry Barnes. The bass line is out of this world

There is just no sound like 80's soul/R&B. "Sugar Free" will still sound amazing in 2085, and 2185...and on and on!

2024 I’m listening because this was one of my Dads favorite songs. Heard it every Friday once he got off work.😁

Love this song. Just learn that the lead singer passed at 56 from breast cancer. Following her singing career in Juicy, she served as a pianist then musical director on Saturday Night Live. She won two Emmys serving as the musical director. Interesting to note that her & her brother played all the instruments on this album. May she rest in peace.

This bassline is legendary! I will never get tired of it. Blessings to everyone!

Rest In Peace to Katresse Barnes. She was also a 2 time Emmy winner, musical director of the Saturday Night Live band & Grammy nominated.

Its crazy that most think this is Mtume, but true R&B lovers know the deal⚘️

I woke up this morning thinking about this song and remembering my colleague, friend, and musical sister Katreese! A big up to you, my brother Jerry Barnes... The music lives on!

This 80s synth R&B is downright hypnotic. Too short lived.

This is the jam. I remember riding down the street with my dad in his old school Cadillac with my sister's and we would all be singing the soul out of this song. R.I.P Dad we love you.

*Eastside Low Bottoms sh*t !*
_Tappin' in from South Central LA_
If I could only listen to 10 r&b songs for the rest of my life, THIS WOULD BE ONE OF 'EM !
This is in heavy rotation on Sundays in my lowrider.

I'm a 70's baby. We appreciated these jams, but I think we took good music for granted. We never thought it would end and we would have todays garbage.

Wicked Bassline! Wish I could get those days back

I remember this jam in high school. We used to dance all close to this. I'm 53 now and this jam is still in my rotation when I'm just chilling or riding down the road. The memories this song brings back.

This Bass is so fresh and so clean. They don't make funky music like this anymore

Jerry Barnes is still kicking it and slapping that bass for CHIC.

Don't know how I missed this song! I first heard this song in 2002 at a roller skating rink. A good song to "tear up" that floor! Immediately, I was stunned! The beat, the music and the singing. It reminded me of Atlantic Starr/Aurra mix, etc. Wish we had new original, real, performing bands today! I absolutely love live music!!!! 🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎤🎤🎙🎙🎙🎙🎚🎹🎹🎹🎺🎻🎻🎷🎸
