This is quite helpful. I think most people who've explored drawing have heard of gesture drawing, but it typically applies to whole figures and there aren't as many explanations for understanding and drawing hand gestures. This is a pretty handy (no pun intended) way of gaining experience in drawing the ever-so-challenging hands.

I feel like drawing/making hands is something you have to stare at it long enough to see that it’s a good hand.. like during the whole process the thoughts of “ew this looks terrible” eventually turns into “you know what this is actually not that bad”

Honestly this was so helpful 😭✋ I’ve always had such a hard time with hands, like I’ve always drawn them in a box type way and it looked so un realistic, ima try this and hope it works 🥲

The way i like to do gesture drawings with hands, is find photos or other references (such as other people's figure drawings or hand sketch pages) and unfocus my eyes or lean a decent amount away from the paper and just start sketching quick and loose. Follow the main shapes, such as making the base of the hand kind of a pentagon, and the fingers rectangular ish shapes. Dont get hung up on details, look at the shapes youre drawing as more vague than precise. Thats where blurring my eyes helps lol, it keeps me from hyperfocusing on individual little lines
