Please note that the last formula shown at 12:00 has an error.
The solution should be dv²/c²., not 2*v*dv/c².
The value of dv²/c² is even smaller than 2*v*dv/c² which further supports the point that there will be almost no differential aging of the twins.

Have you ever wondered about the twin paradox? Why would one twin age faster than the other if all motion is relative? Authors invoke acceleration as the answer, but either twin can be considered the accelerated twin and the other twin the non-accelerated twin. Either twin can be the younger twin.

There must be a different answer, and Joe Sorge provides it in this episode. Joe leaves us with a tantalizing challenge: we must find the true universal stationary frame of space.

I personally think the video was great and was shocked to see how few videos you made and they are all quality videos like a seasoned full time youtuber, The comments are hilarious, people irritated with the voices which i think are pretty funny i thought it was another person at first 😂. Thank you for your hard work on these videos you make for all of us much appreciated ❤

This video is wrong in so many different ways I don't even know where to start.

To begin with, there is no such thing as the "train station of the universe", at least, not one that can be detected by experiment. This is one of Einstein's postulates of special relativity, that the physics in any inertial frame is the same.

Secondly, the twin paradox is not symmetric. The twin that travels experiences inertial forces (i.e. accelerations) whereas the twin on the Earth does not (at least negligibly). It is therefore the twin that travels which ages less, and not that both of them age the same.

Lorentz transformations only provide transformations between inertial frames. This is related to my first point, that special relativity was designed to get rid of the idea of an universal frame of reference. Instead, we get an equivalence class of frames known as the inertial frames in which the physical laws have the same form. The Lorentz transformations and the Lorentz factor gamma are most definitely correct as they are the underlying symmetries in many many different physical theories, most notably, electromagnetism.

This video is at best completely misleading and I am quite upset that there is such misinformation to the general public on what really is the special theory of relativity.

Sincerely, a physics student.

If i had to listen to this Einstein voice, I'd be relatively irritated.

this would be easier to understand if ya just used a satalite going around earth at weird speeds, and itd be a snap to always know which clock is doing what... oh wait, we already knew this

The similar time passage makes the most sense. However, I believe folding space is a much more efficient solution than even faster than light travel. Good video!

Also, why don't ships get left in space? Are they able to travel faster than Earth's speed through space? Is there momentum sustained from leaving earth?

Time dilation has been measured by GPS satellites. +45 micro seconds for altitude, -7 micro seconds for velocity.
Micro seconds are indeed a small unit, but time dilation exists and is measurable.

How is one version of time dilation different from the other?

Sabine Hossenfelder says that acceleration, unlike motion, is not relative but absolute, so the twin that accelerates is determinable, and so one that accelerated ages slower - the motion and the direction of either are irrelevant. How do you respond ?

This is known as the magnetic universe theory. The problem is that it still depends upon your position relative to the dipole. Depending on where you are along the dipole moment, you will age differently as the energy of the magnet is passing you at a different rate and curve depending on your place along the dipole moment and your distance from the center of the dipole. This is a tattered bandaid. It does nothing to solve the problem and creates its own issues (such as most stellar bodies have their own magnetic field, rendering tracking in space meaningless). If you travel toward the center, the rate of your aging will change because the distance between energy particles compresses.

The only error I have been able to find in Einstein is his arbitrary claim that space is a fabric, which remains unproved and directly contradicts the premise of Relativity.

The Earth is 0 because that is the person’s starting point. Their acceleration (change in frame of reference) is the only change that takes place. They accelerate away from the Earth's reference frame and then toward the Earth's reference frame. There is no such thing as "deceleration" in regard to the one moving. It is the same amount of energy, but applied in a different direction. That energy is being applied to the moving observer both ways. That is because there is no universal reference frame ("cosmic train station"). It is never applied to the Earth except through gravity (which just zeroes out on the return trip). It is the addition of energy that causes a temporal discontinuity.

It works mathematically, creating an exacting temporal disparity, because that is exactly what is actually happening.

If you stretch a piece of bubble gum, it does not return io its original shape as if a rubber band. If you stretch it to the moon and come back, it continues to stretch. It never undoes the journey. That is time dilation.

That’s means that my twin paradoxes are in elementary school, middle school, and high school! I’ve dreamed about those moments before, particularly high school!

I've made a video about twin paradox with rectangular route. It seems to imply that difference in acceleration doesn't cause difference in time dilation, considering everything else is equal.

Thx for all the work you put into this. As a product of Detroit public school system I do not use your elegante math. 😮
Question for you professor....
Since time is 50% of any SPEED calculation, can light SPEED remain the same where and when time is slower?
Either light SPEED is not "constant" or time dilation is a myth.
It seems to me that what your doing is simply observing that people can have different perspectives when observing from differant locations, while not accepting that this simple truth is all that's going on.
I have set up an experiment that eliminate most of the variables in that twin paradox example. I would love to see what your awesome math skills can do with it. If you respond I'll type my fingers bloody and share it. Thx Doc. 😊

It's a bit confusing with the error around 12 min, I think it would be better to upload a new version. The idea behind the twin paradox is also that the spaceship would go really fast and not only dv faster than the velocity of Earth through space relative to the static alien observer, the (dv)^2 parts can't be ignored since the spaceship is flying at high velocity. The v of the Earth will still be on the spaceship as well due to inertia, so Earth could be seen as static and the spaceship moving with a v near c for the twin paradox to have significant time dilation, the static alien observer can be omitted. I still like the channel! Keep it up!

Here is my version of the twin's paradox.

2 featureless balls exist in empty space. That space has no stars, no planets, nothing else to use as a reference.
Lets call our 2 balls, A and B.

Here is what we know:

1) From A's point of view, B accelerated up to a speed close to 99% the speed of light, reached up to 1 lightyear, then decelerated, rotated to face A, accelerated again close to the same speed, and finally decelerated to return back to him.

1) From B's point of view, A accelerated up to a speed close to 99% the speed of light, reached up to 1 lightyear, then decelerated, rotated to face B, accelerated again close to the same speed, and finally decelerated to return back to him.

Who is older?

If the one sample in the lab in moved very slowly away from the other ( say 2 rooms over) and brought back equally slow, will that sample still be slowed down?😊

If you don't like special relativity, you can use Lorentz's ether theory (that's what the theory you prefer is called). But Lorentz's ether theory gives the same results as special relativity, so no experiment can show the difference between them. According to both of these theories, the twin who returns to Earth will be younger. Lorentz's ether theory offers a simpler and more intuitive explanation. To understand the explanation of special relativity, one must understand not only time dilation, but also Lorentz contraction and the relativity of simultaneity.

That’s a pretty pricey set for a YouTube channel. Pretty slick editing, also.

Einstein was an ACTOR and when he was asked how it felt to be a genius he said I DON'T KNOW you would have to ask NIKOLA TESLA.

Space and Time are two separate frames of reference. Clocks are instruments that measure motion in space. The earth rotating on its axis as ot orbits the sun.
The sun is the force that accelerates plant growth. Its radiant energy warms the soil and induces seed germination. Once the plant emerges from the ground. It starts taking in sunlight and converts it to plant matter. Going faster or slower in space as no bearing out the amount of energy that a plant receives from the sun other than moving away from the sun, there is less radiant energy and more energy when moving towards the sun.
All of that can be controlled by turning on a light.
Radioactive decay can be controlled by placing objects in statis. The cesium-133 atom in the atomic clock is chilled to absolute zero in order to prevent an acceleration in time event. Is the observer also being chilled to absolute zero? The observer is not even in the same Time frame of reference as the clock.

Whether its out of ignorance, stupidity, or the desire to promote a narrative- Einstein as a god - the Hafel-Keating experiment failed to validate Einstein’s time-dilation nonsense. Both clocks used the same amount of energy and thus experienced the same amount of time. Why? E=mc. Where mass is stored energy and c is the speed of light which is acceleration which is Time. So E=mc equals E=t or Energy equals Time. Both clocks used the same amount of energy and had the same amount of run time. One just experienced more space as shown by the clock readout. The HK experiment also proved that there is a preferred frame of reference.
The properties of light make it an absolute reference marker in which to measure all other motion against. Relativity is inconsequential when there is an absolute reference marker.
Do objects 'age" faster when going faster in space? Newton's law of motion, F=ma shows that force equals Acceleration. How much force/stress is being placed on the human body as it is being accelerated in space? How much negative force as compared to the stationary twin?
The only correct answer that can be deduced from the Twin Paradox as given is that both twins are the same age because they experienced the same amount of time. One just experiences more space, as shown by the chronometer readouts.

The flat earth physicists wont acknowledge this though because that destroys everything they've been brainwashed into believing.

E=mc. Energy equals Time. If there is no difference in energy values, there is no difference in Time values.

And since the energy levels of each twin are not given, there is no age difference between the two.
