Fed up with her abusive family situation, lack of school prospects and the “boys’ law” in the neighborhood, Marieme starts a new life after meeting a group of three free-spirited girls. She changes her name, her style, drops out of school and starts stealing to be accepted into the gang. When her home situation becomes unbearable, Marieme seeks solace in an older man who promises her money and protection. Realizing this sort of lifestyle will never result in the freedom and independence she truly desires, she finally decides to take matters into her own hands.

"I stopped and I watched you. You were beautiful."  I haven't seen this movie yet but that line pretty much sums up my reaction to this trailer. A coming of age story about diverse group of young black women, yes please!

This movie looks good, very rarely we see movies about strong black women, hopefully it captures the hardship of black women. The main girl is beautiful :O

I was invited through Twitter to check out this trailer. It looks good. I will definitely check this film out.
And let me just say this, I'm offended by a few of the comments on this page. It bothers me as an educator, an academic and as a person of color. There have been many offenses that continue to this day and age towards most of us (& if one actually reads real history, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, has been discriminated against, oppressed and belittled. Unfortunately, such actions continue to this day. Just in different forms).
In contemporary times, we continue with the same foolishness that many forebears once followed. No one is being 'overly sensitive' when it comes to the blatant disregard of oneself as portrayed by popular media (Which is the reason I watch more foreign cinema than Hollywood films nowadays).
However, when independents and the few film pioneers try to showcase a kaleidoscope of experiences, there is always those voices that whisper derogatory jokes and other forms of what sociologists call 'microaggressions'.
Do not presume to tell someone that he/she is being overly sensitive when one has not walked in the other's shoes to begin to understand what countless people go through on a daily basis.

Great movie. It has a really unfortunate english translated title though. I'm sure the masses will pass it off as a crappy Boyhood rip-off which is entirely far from the truth. This movie deserves better.

Thought it was a sequel to Kidulthood more so than Boyhood. Maybe throw a bit of La Haine in there too.
