This is seriously a great review. Thank you so much. My little sister is intensely into making and listening to music. I bought her something around $50 last year, thinking it was okay. Can't remember what it was but its sound quality was garbage within a month. I have a lot of headphones around here that are decent but I can't afford to give her anything top tier. But this review definitely helped me decide to get these for her along with another tiny gift for this Christmas. Thanks! It's currently $25 on SlickDeals, so I might add this to my headset collection too!

You've covered all the features in a very detailed way. I've already watched several videos of SR850 including this earlier this year and bought one then very soon. Thanks, and sorry for the belated thanks 🙂

I know I'm a few years too late for this party but this is a great review. Spot on too. I've just bought a set of these and I'm really impressed with them. I bought them primarily for mixing my tracks but I've actually really enjoyed regular listening too when I've been testing them out and getting used to them with different kinds of music. The bass response is great - clear and punchy without being fake and over-boosted, and the high end is lovely and clear too, so I expect these will help with my mixes no end. I create electronic music - somewhere between EDM, experimental and Darkwave - not as bass heavy as some forms of EDM, but nonetheless I do need to be able to mix the bass well and these seem more than up for the job.

Thanks for the video, I watched this a couple of weeks ago and I finally got the chance to make myself a purchase. I hope it lives to its expectations!

These are on sale for $32 on amazon. After this review, I'm glad to know they get a recommendation at 50 bucks! Excited to dig in and give them a try.

Thank you for an unbelievably detailed and focused review. Solely based on your graciously given information, I ordered these headphones.
When they arrived this morning I plugged them into my Zoom H6...WOW ! I then plugged them into my phone...WOW !! Then I relistened to this review with them, I am so absolutely pleased !!!
I tip my hat to you, sir !

How is it different from Samson sr950? Can you give a indepth review of sr950 compared to sr850? Thanks, I am deciding between sr850 and sr950 since sr950 is 20 dollars more...

Nice video, and I agree on all counts. The price to performance ratio on these is simply astounding.

I have a pair of PreSonus HD7 headphones that look very similar to these (and especially the Superlux 681s). I think they all use the same driver, with Superlux as the OEM.

I'm looking forward to giving these headphones a go!
I find my self to be abit of an audiophile, and I crave nice sharp highs mixed with nice deep and clear lows and a strong mid range section that still stands clear!

I'm a big fan of Harman Kardon (Infinity car audio) products but can't always afford there stuff for everything.
I'm hoping these will compare!
I'm sure they will be better then the old JVC headphones I have had kicking around the last 10 years.

I don't think the driver size is a primary indication of how well a headphone can replicate bass, it has a lot more to do with how the driver is actually tuned and whether the headphones are closed, semi-open, or open back (along with other various factors too). If you compare a neutrally tuned open-back 50mm driver headphone to a closed back V or U-shaped tuned 40mm driver headphone, then in that case the 40mm driver will have deeper punchier bass. Of course if both are closed-back and tuned with a V/U shaped sound then yes the 50mm driver may have slightly better overall bass, but that's comparing them on equal terms. Just a point I thought I would make, I understood what you were trying to get at, but sometimes you have to be careful about making too open of a claim so as to not potentially misinform buyers. Other than that, great video! :) I'm considering getting one of these for a Modmic 4.0 combo for gaming since my TurtleBeach PX22 is super painful to wear after an hour.

Just wondering, do you have any recommendations for sub 50 headphones that are closed back? I've heard of the Photive PH-BTH3, Noontec Zoro II, and Tascam TH-02 with HM5 pads, thanks bro <3 love the content, you got me subscribed

I just ordered a pair this morning. I needed a good pair of headphones to mix my beats with, since I'm on a tight budget. I bought some Status Audio CB-1 headphones a year ago and there were not good at all. had to pretty much turn the volume all the way to max just to get a decent listen to. will see if the Samson SR850's live up to the hype.

@Fat1h Arslan sr850 are semi opened back headphones so your mic will pickup some sound leaking from headphones and your recording will turn into shit, and it will be whole lot harder to edit. So I'd say get sr950 cause they are essentially same headphones but they are closed back. Sound quality is top notch on both. Good luck

Hey are these headphones still worth getting? or are there any better headphones for the price at this point in time?
Also the Superlux HD 681is $10 cheaper than the Samson SR850, so should i pick up the superlux instead since its just a rebrand?
