Are Collectors editions worth it? (reupload)

When I was starting out buying games, one of the first ones I remember was Lunar the Silver Star story complete. That was a fantastic collectors edition at the time. But over the years, it seems we’ve been flooded with hollow collectors editions, limited editions, day one editions, signature editions, and deluxe editions. They all seem to be getting More and more on the cheap side with download vouchers and other half assed efforts. Do you guys still think some are worth having? Or should we play it safe with just a good ol fashion standard edition for our new games

They keep coming out with new things to call them. Limited, Premium, Crystal Box, all it boils down to most of the time is "Here's a small art book, a sample OST, a coffee cup coaster, a left shoe and the game. That'll be $250"

Everybody, the answer was, "A lot of them don't really seem like they're worth your time." You're welcome. lol

If they don't put the entire game on the physical version they are offending collectors big time and I refuse to buy that crap.

Your right. Download vouchers suck in a complete edition.

I do play modern games however, I'm so lucky to be a retro gamer from the early days of gaming and happen to own retro games! I miss the days were games were complete-on-disc or game card or cartridge. No worrying about downloading a much needed patch of a game that you haven't yet played years later! Thanks Reg! Real game enthusiast need to watch this vid. On the contrary, the large number of consumers are just casual players so THEY WILL NEVER CARE about patches, DLC etc or games as much as we do and companies know and take advantage of that fact!!!

I used to care about collector's editions, but now not so much. They take up too much room, too pricey and honestly the contents within are never worth the inflated price anyways. Only games I have CE's for are for Zelda games and a few Rockstar titles (particularly Red Dead 1 & 2).

Great video Rad Reg! I agree, when u buy a collector's edition it should all be on the disc, not some bs digital code that becomes worthless after it expires! Physical media all day

I bought the tekken 7 collector's edition for 150 euro, 3 weeks later they were selling it for 54 euro. if you want to buy a collector's edition, buy one from an AAA company, those get sold out fast, and resold for almost double the price.

Sometimes and depends on the price. If it's one of a game I really want I'll consider it, otherwise I usually wait for clearance prices on them. For instance I got the doom ce for $40, tekken 7 for $30, GOW for $50, wwe 2k18 cena nuff for $18

I like the Collectors Edition for games I really really want which are only a few and far in between the rest I wait until it's 6 to 12 months old for cheaper price.

Great video. I used to almost buy CEs exclusively, but somewhere along the way, I realized many were not worth it and took up too much space. Nowadays, I'm picky and will buy one if it's small with just an art book, CD, and nice small case with a minor price premium. No longer buying huge CEs with cheap statues or toys.

I just recently picked up the Ni No Kuni 2 CE you mentioned in this video from Gamestop for a whopping $30. From $200 down to $30. Insane. I already had the game, but fuck it, for $30 it was not bad. $200? No. $30? Thank you! Before that, I bought the Catherine Full Body CE for PS4 because I had the Best But GC discount on it which brought it down to just a few bucks more than a regular edition.

Anyway, thanks for the videos, man. Always good content. Much love, Reg.

Some are, some are not. Some go up in value, some stay around retail and some become near worthless. Really it's hit or miss with CE and I tend to only get the ones I really like, usually Nintendo related ones because they hold value better.

I agree regarding Ys VIII. That was probably the last great Collector's edition I bought. Everything else is seems to have minimal effort put in these days.

I'm a huge Resident Evil 2 fan and I've yet to buy the remake because I know Capcom will re-release it complete at some point. The Deluxe edition was so disappointing, personally. Heck, they even re-released the original RE2 with the Dual Shock version back then so I think it's inevitable.
