I'm a Canadian (and yes, we have hard-right people here too).
I remember back in the 90's when Pat Buchanan called us "Soviet Canuckistan". Because we had public healthcare. Because we were still being "protectionist" on certain products (as was the US!) as part of NAFTA (at the same time he opposed "free trade"!). Because we had what he considered a "socialist welfare state" (a figment of his imagination then, and a parody concept now).
I remember Bill O'Reilly on Fox, while interviewing a young Canadian (Albertan, if I recall correctly) "movement conservative" (as they called it at the time - early 2000's) activist who felt she was badly treated by media at home. Bill was profuse in his expressions of sympathy for her persecutions, and then - get this - referred to the Toronto "Globe and Mail" newspaper (a "Bay Street" paper - think a Canadian "Wall Street") by saying "it reads like the Havana press."(!) Yep. The foremost national newspaper in Canada was "commie". apparently.
Etc., etc.
Beware. These people are insane. Or - even worse - they are merely con-man charlatans deliberately playing to millions of dupes. Either way, this didn't happen overnight. This has been happening for decades, my friends.
In the US there's always "Reds" (and/or foreigners, and/or black men) hiding under the bed, it seems.
