That Mendes knockout will forever be on Aldo's highlight reel for sure.

I love Aldo, the guy is so humble and a truly good guy.

If anyone else ran into the crowd after the fight like Aldo, I think people would be a little WTF?
Where as Aldo it's like, "yep, dude you deserve it and totally won that"

Brilliant KO and brilliant win.

Scary how skilled this dude is. If a top of the food chain wrestler can't take him down and grind him out thats an eye opener to the whole 145 lb divison. Lets face it, nobody at 145 is going to out strike him on the feet. Add to the fact that he has great BJJ so his submission defence is top notch against other submission fighters out there. All that said, I don't see anyone taking his belt for a long time. The same way Anderson has not lost since '06, we might not see Aldo lose until like 2018

Aldo easily best featherweight in the world. Best leg kicks and best takedown defense of all weight classes. Wanna see either Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar or Aldo vs Dominick Cruz. Those two fights would be good tests for him and Epic fights for all the fans. Make it happen Dana!

I regularly find myself rooting for the underdog guy, don't know why. But in the end I just love to see great fights or fighters doing great things. so I was kinda rooting for Mendez but Jose knew he was gonna go for a takedown of that clinch so he threw a knee, goddam genius. I don't see anybody taking his belt in the near future.

Aldo holding the fence didn't change the outcome of the fight. Mendes made several attempts to take Aldo down, and Aldo stumped him each time. He beat Mendes fair and square.

Great fight, started off slow, with both fighters wary of each others skills, but aldo pretty much broke mendes when he kept stuffing takedowns with ease, admittedly once while holding the cage.but this kids a monster he has lethal striking, black belt in bjj and he's one of the quickest and most explosive fighters ive ever seen.i can see him dominating the division for a long time and maybe becoming greater than anderson silva.
Not sure who's next for him, maybe amove up to lightweight??

@TFSmash That takedown attempt was 45 seconds before the KO, plus he was succesful in the takedown just a few seconds later after Aldo was warned for holding the fence but couldn't keep couldn't keep him down for even 1 second, the rest we know.

@TFSmash That takedown attempt was 45 seconds before the KO and Mendes was succesful just a couple of seconds after Aldo was warned for holding the fence but couldn't hold him down even for 2 seconds, the rest we all know.

aldo would have got straight back up away because mendes tried the exact same TD before that and aldo got right back up

There definitely does need to be a new rule about grabbing the fence. Mendes had Aldo almost over his head when he grabbed the fence. I understand it's instinct but that would have been a HUGE take down for Mendes. I think the ref should have stopped the fight and gave Mendes top control in Aldo's guard. I mean Mendes had him with such force he almost ripped Aldo's grasp from the cage.
No disrespect though, congrats to the champion, I just think the fence grabbing rule is a bit bs.

is there any way Dominique Cruz and Aldo will ever square up?

@TFSmash Yeap that is a fair point, you are right. But in my opinion it was clear from the first round that Aldo was just too good for Mendes. Wonder when he will move up to lightweight, cause there's no challenge for him a featherweight.

@BirdIsDaWordTV You clearly don't the see the bigger issue here... the fence needs smaller holes which means no need to worry about holding the fence and less REF needing to give a point or warning.

@BirdIsDaWordTV watch the replay, he wasn't holding the fence.
