One thing I never hear anyone saying they keep on hand is window screening. If/when there is a collapse, we will all have hot weather to get through. We would want screening in the windows and on doors to protect us from bugs and insects. Not a huge thing, but for sure, a needed item.

Stockpile knowledge. As much useful knowledge as possible. Books, information, skills . Fifty years ago, my grandfather, who came to America, taught me the most valuable lesson I could ever learn. He said get as much knowledge as you can, because they can never take that away from you. It can never be taxed, seized, confiscated, sold off, or given away.

I am a single almost 70-year-old woman who lives in the city. Moving is not an option as I care for a son with mental health issues.
I am an RN with a medical skill set from years of working in a busy emergency department. Besides those skills, people forget the need for a sewing machine with the skills that go with that. We wear clothes every day. We need to know how to repair and repurpose. we need a Sewing Machine and all the accessories and supplies that we need to make and mend clothing! So that’s what I am throwing out there to this community – brush up on sewing skills and have the equipment and supplies necessary.
My second suggestion would be to collect all the how to books and cookbooks necessary if we lose the Internet!
This is a wonderful community. A lot can be learned from the comments. Thank you to Southern prepper1 for giving us this platform.
Stay safe, everyone. 😊

Oh almost forgot, replace your kitchen utensils with metal ones. The plastic ones break and deteriorate, wood does too. But the metal spoons and tongs and spatulas will last forever and can be used over fire. Cast iron pans are also a very worthy investment.

I am a 73 year old female who lives in Southeast Louisiana near the Gulf of Mexico, have been prepping for years. All could be loss in one hurricane! I realized that some of my basic preps need to come with me when I face forced evacuations. I have been going through my camping gear and decided to get them ready for the approaching 2024 hurricane season. Instead of just packing my car with the bare essentials and fleeing to a hotel room somewhere to ride it out, I will pack for camping and survival. I will be staying in a State or National park somewhere away from the weather until safe to return home. If I return to a destroyed home, I will have basics to have shelter from the elements until I can do better.

Safety glasses, ear plugs, face shields, gloves, extra work boots, socks, underwear. PPE negligence and hygiene will be a killer in the long run.

Plant mulberry trees! You can't kill those things, they regenerate...make loads more saplings every year and they are less prone to fruit tree diseases. The mulberries are some of the most nutritional high density, most bang for your buck prolific, and if you keep the trees pruned properly, the fruit is easy to harvest. They make wonderful country wine and Medicinal syrups, less seedy than blackberries, very sweet, and the berries are huge!

This is not a stockpiling thing but one thing the world needs so desperately is humanity. Every time I go into town, every gas station, every store I go into, is so full of rude people. Very rarely do I run across someone who smiles back, or nods a friendly hello. I don't care what walk of life you come from. Your smile or friendly gesture may just be the one thing that gets an individual through their day. And vise versa. Your rudeness may be someone's final straw. Love people. Thank you for this conversation starter Dave! God bless and stay safe everyone!

My husband of 28 years past away last November. He was a machinest, machine builder, specializing in hydraulics. He had a shop built on our property when he retired. He stayed buiser in his retirement years than he did in his working years! We live in farming country. When someone's tractor tore up they would bring it to my husband to repair. He was a 'prepper' of different things. He was always gojng to flea markets, yard sales & estate sales to find the things he needed.
In his shop are Hydraulic Cylinders of all sizes, Hoses & gages of all sizes, Hydraulic Fluids, Oil, Transmission Fluids. Every kind od tool you can imagine both electric & hand tools, Hand Saw's in sizes and to much other stuff to mention!! My husband was prepared to not only keep us going but keep our neighbors and their farms going as well.
I hope this helps someone. Stay safe everyone and keep prepping!!

TWO wheat grinders. They need to be identical, so if one breaks, use the second, and when the last one breaks, parts are interchangeable!!

Take some old refrigerators and put them in the ground, put some of your most valuable possessions in it! Cans of food, gold, silver, guns, ammunition, fishing gear, etc etc etc! So if anything should happen to your house like a fire, tornado, flood or even robbers, you get the point! You will have some hidden assets!!!

One more thing. Teddy bears!!! They can serve a serious emotional need for kids and grown-ups, especially older people who have lost a loved one. Try sleeping with a teddy bear.

I'm 71, a retired hard rock miner. Worked in a uranium mine for a couple of years, got sick then clipped by the medical industrial complex. 25 miles from a small town and live like my grand folks. It's not just about physical fitness. The discomfort of having to pack wood in or feed the critters when it's 30 below is a good way to find your limits. That threshold changes with age and you really need to know.

As a Massage Therapist, I can think of things I use that would be very helpful. We are all going to be working hard! Amazing what a little back massage can do! Physical touch is so important!!
1. Round smooth black stones. Leave out in the sun to heat up. Great for sore muscles. Pieces of smooth marble also to keep cold.
2. Pain cream, muscle relaxer cream, essential oils, massage lotion, etc.
3. Buy a used massage table. Use it for a medical table also.
4. KT tape, sterile gloves, sanitizer, honey (many uses).
