A lot of you guys asked me for a video about how to draw a face and get the proportions right! With this portrait drawing tutorial I hope to help you with that by showing you guys the basic human proportions of the face so you know how to draw a face with the right proportions next time!

🔸 Pencils I used & General Tips 🔸

- I used an HB pencil for the outlines & moved on to 2B-6B for adding darker lines & for shading! Let me know if you want to see an in-depth video about pencils and how they work!

- Use a reference photo, if you want to draw a specific person! Similar to my how to draw hair video, pay attention where the light comes from & where you get shadows so you know where to add the shadows in your drawing!

- For blending & adding shadows I would recommend going lightly over the areas you want to make darker using a soft pencil & blend everything with a tissue!

- Don't use your fingers as they might have oil/grease on it which will make it harder to blend & work with the drawing later on!

I think drawing is just like playing guitar. You have to practice to get better and it takes time! So people should never give up if they want to draw! :)

Hey! Good tutorial. I understand you want to put your own touch on your drawing. I work as an artist and I'm specializing on portraits, and I have a tip: Normally, when you draw a portrait of someone, you want to capture them in a way that makes it VERY similar to how they actually look. This very much include their "flaws", which are the things that makes them one of a kind. Therefore, the technique of measuring a face out perfectly according to how it typically SHOULD look will result in a portrait that is only somewhat similar to the real person. As you first showed us: the circle, middle diagonal line and two or three horizontal lines are always a good skeleton for your drawing. I would however avoid measuring them out the way you did.
The only important things you have to measure are the actual features of the person you're drawing. You measure them by looking at the in-between spaces and not the actual features. You don't have to use a ruler, you can use just your eyes, or your pen and fingers if you'd like (that's why you often see artists holding their pens in front of them in movies and stuff haha! ). For example: I want to draw the persons eyes. How far apart are they? -I measure the space between their eyes (A good rule of thumb is that you in most cases can fit one identical eye in between their eyes. The lashes and stuff does not count. This may vary, tho). How high or low are they placed in the persons face? -I measure the space between the upper line of the eye and the lower line of the eyebrow (In pretty much all people, the measurements are not exactly the same on both eyes). How far are the eyes from the persons temples? -I measure the space from the outer corner of the eye to the space where the hairline starts. And just like that, you've got the basic placement down EXACTLY according to the persons face. And you just go on and on and on, measuring all the in between spaces. Good luck!

What I really love about this tutorial video is that, while she is telling us tips and how to draw certain things, she just spits out very great motivational thoughts for us beginners at drawing. More power to you girl. Hats off ❤❤

These videos have helped out quite a bit in a short amount of time, compared to months ago, my style has changed, and my drawing has become quite realistic. I just.. need some time to figure out shading, but I've gotten praise and pointers from two amazing artists in my family. One said I'm going to right track. 😄

You know, you are right. Some things really look more difficult than they are, and we might be surprised that we're actually good at doing something we haven't done in ages, or haven't done at all. I for once haven't tried painting since primary school, and now it turns out I can do it and not be terrible at it. This is surprising, as I thought this would be so beyond me. Now I only wish I could draw and paint people, but this is just to frustrating.
So happy to have found your channel.
