For those of you bringing up doping suspicions; I think you are more than entitled to have that opinion based on the following information...

Liu Zige - 2:03.90 (7/26/2009)
Liu Zige - 2:01.81 (10/21/2009)

Kyle: The swimmers that you mention are no doubt talented, yet Mary T. Meagher’s 200 and 100M butterfly WR’s blow all of the current swimmers out of the water - 2:05 and 57, respectively in 1981. Both records lasted for almost 20 years. And she did that at a time when swimmers didn’t have the underwater technique that’s standard for elite swimmers today. I saw her in am interview once - very down to earth. She deserves to be remembered as unquestionably one of the greatest athletes in any sport, of all times.

I had so much fun swimming at the sun devil open last weekend. Super cool to see all these fast times go down by some of the sport’s biggest stars!

I agree with you. I took multiple pictures of Regan Smith's swim during her swim at Tempe. I believe you have seen the series. What you may not be aware of is the final picture of her on the deck is a totally candid shot taken about 30 seconds after she finished the race. To me she does not appear to be stressed or exhausted by that swim. I suspect she has "more in the tank"!

I've felt the same about Adam Peaty's 100br WR for a while as well.

Wow - making the move to Bowman is really paying off for Regan!

LOL: The first 25 of your 25 butterfly. I love your commentary, kid. : ) Good job and thanks for the relevant info!

I think someone (Regan or Summer) will definitely go sub 2:03 this year, or at least before the olympics. I do think the world record will be safe until after the olympics, though.

Mens 800free LCM is untouchable. The record stands at 7:32 and the winning time of world championships is 7:39. That is almost a SECOND on every 100. Just ridiculous

Regan's Sun Devil 200 Fly was ballsy, but she died a bit at the end lowered her body position but gutted it out.

The 200 butterfly is legitimately one of my favorite races to watch

Ah fuck. I just remembered Paul Biedermann still has TWO long course world records. Pisses me off.

There was a glare on the scoreboard when Regan finished; I had to move to different angles for about 5 seconds to be sure the "seconds" digit was a three. Kind of overwhelming.

No one's gonna talk about the mens 2back?

...or has that already been discussed before?

That WR just doesn't make any sense at all

The stroke rate was nuts on that last 50 to be fair

Hot take: i think that doping WRs should be removed (like the 200 fly) or super suit WRs where the advantage is obviously so incredibly helpful (like Paul Bidermann's 200 and 400 free, Thorpe should still have the 400 free)

Mary T’s 2:05.96 is the greatest swim in history. Then Janet’s 8:16, Thorpe’s 3:40, Ledecky’s 8:04 and Sjostrom’s 24.4 are all next.
