Students often pursue a tertiary education after they finish secondary school, but there are some who think that a university education can transform your life at any age. Should students begin degree courses at a time in their lives when many are thinking about slowing down?

I'm 24, not a mother, not self employed yet I am technically a so called mature student but unlike most people I have no social support & I don't even have my GCSEs yet!
As a daughter of disabled, stifling, immigrant parents, I have no advantage.
Most mature students have already got an educational background or are parents.
I wish there was more tailored support to each individual.

There were great points brought up in the video, but I think it left out two important factors. One is the dramatic shift occurring in the economy - mainly in the form of automation driving unemployment - and the likely need for an increase in adaptability from higher learning to help people adapt to that world. The other is the fact that individuals have varying learning needs which likely need to be looked at closer.

The shift to automation and faster turnover from design to production from things like 3-D printing carries with it a higher demand for skills and education in fields like engineering and computer science. The traditional model of education, mainly in the west, which tends to value competition over cooperation does not bode well for future trends. As the video is using China as an example of where large number of seniors are continuing their studies, it neglected the core component of where this observation has its roots. A holistic approach is necessary to help mitigate the shocks as the economy shifts, yet institutions seem to be stuck in the past.

In terms of individuals, people have unique personalities and with them process information in different ways. Distance learning is not suited to everyone for this reason which was not even brought up by anyone in the discussion. Some extreme extroverts technically require connection to people in order to absorb and reinforce knowledge effectively. The tendency to leave behind outliers actually creates a positive feedback loop which creates more outliers. It is so arrogant to claim that something like distance/E-learning has no cons. Everything has benefits and costs. Disappointing choice of guests.

Not at any age. Age limits 18-39. I'm not allowed to go to the university for tertiary education. I don't go for higher education. I don't like University.

This isn't a very good variation of people for a discussion in mature further learning. Other than the gentleman in wolverhampton the others are just upper middle class.

This host is annoying, interrupting and speaking over the others.
