Since getting this tool I love going by the hardwood section at the big box stores. It makes me feel rich having so much nicely milled stock lol.

For planing multiple board edges (which you demonstrate, and I've been doing for years), I use 5" clamps at each end, centered on the stock, and it gives much greater likelihood of maintaining the 90 degree face/edge joints by keeping the stock upright, without wobble.

I did make the upgrade to the carbide helical head a couple of years ago and I love it. Yes, there is scalloping but a hand sander makes quick work of that problem. There are no longer any ridges due to nicks in the blades and I have yet to rotate even one of the carbide inserts. The end result is a smooth board with blades/inserts that last a loooong time.

Thanks
The tip of plaining to final thickness just before assembly I never knew
I really like my DW735 and would highly recommend it. Might upgrade mine to a carbide spiral head.
For any heavy load equipment use a 12 gauge or larger cord. All I buy is 12 gauge minimum.

Good advice on thickness I almost always go straight to desired dimensions time for a change
1st don't leave the planar on the number 1 smooth setting it puts more strain on the motor only use it for finishing or it will burn out your motor it happen on cedar
2nd its a 15amp motor try to put it on a 20amp circuit at least so it gets enough power. A 15amp circuit with this an extension cord maybe even a shopvac, maybe something else will rob the planar of power and cause the motor again to work harder than it should and possibly cause motor damage rigid had this issue
3rd you can use this to flatten slightly warped boards with an easily made jig and shims plenty of videos on it

This thing works great, its not cheap, treat it with some respect and it will last you a long time and there are amazing replacement blade systems for it.

I ran a .875" thick board through a few times, cutting maybe .03125" off at a time, and then the rollers stopped pulling it through. Any thoughts on why this is happening? I had the Turret Stop set to .125" and the Speed to 1.

Hi very nice presentation. I have a 13 inch dewalt thickness planer. Let’s say I have three pieces of 2X4 and each one them is 2-7/16, 2-3/8, and 2-5/16 how do I make all three of them being 2-5/16 without manually measuring them. I appreciate your input. Thanks

Could I use this to smooth out rough fence pickets? I just bought a used picket fence and I want to “restore” some of the pickets, but I’m not physically able to do the sanding myself.

I ordered the DW735X. I'm hoping it will do the job. Based on reviews it should be a good planer.
Is it true that the blades can get mis aligned?

I am wanting to plane some reclaimed wood. Some look dirty. Should I wash the wood first or does it make a difference? Also, some of the boards are warped. Any tips for those?

I finally bought one. I suggest EVERYONE who needs to plane buy one. Why? Let me tell you why. You could drop 200$ on a bosch router, build a router sled, buy a couple 4' aluminum levels and some acrylic to create the sled template to flatten your lumber. You'll spend hours and hours and the finish won't be as nice. Don't cheap out on the stupid dewalt 734 that has 2 knives, you'll hate it. The 735 is really great IF you learn how to use it. Lots of sleds and jigs. I really want a helical head, but looking at 400$ for a nice one and that's expensive. The finish on this so far is really nice. Finish sanding and it's great.

I have a quick question for you.
I am new to woodworking and I’m starting little projects.
The first one was a cheeseboard. I used a planer jig (melamine )with my Dewalt 735X.
As I was planing my wood, I noticed that one end of my 20” board was becoming much thinner.
Was I shimming the wrong end of the board?
Did I need to flip over my board?
Lastly, on my planer there’s a round wheel on the left side called a Turret Stop. I have mine set a 1/8”. Is that where I want it set and when would I change that?

Thanks
Jeff
