NICU centres to babies upto 28 days of age, that is preterm as well as term are cared for in an NICU upto 28 days of age. So that is the upper limit for admission. But once the baby is admitted in the NICU before 28 days of age, they can be catered till they become alright even if they are beyond 28 days of age. So usually thee babies who are born preterm, or example, at 27 weeks or 28 weeks of gestation, they would be discharged when they are around 34 or 35 weeks of gestation, would be around 6 weeks of hospital stay. So literally means it is more than 28 days. It doesn’t mean that after 28 days they will not be catered to. But it is the age limit for admission into NICU. In paediatric ICU, any child older than 1 month of age, upto 12 years or sometimes up to 18 years would be catered to. So paediatric ICU caters to wide range of children from age 1 month upto 12 or 18 years depending on the hospital policies.
