Tips: the director of this short said he decided this is his last work and gonna concentrate on management of the studio.
You can find his thoughts in the storytelling. No one can stop aging, but you can develop the next generations.

it so satisfying to see a dark lord get owned by a basic defensive stance

Don't people ever consider that the Elder Sith was actually bait them not for the sole purpose of simply killing them. But actually to have a last fight with a worthy opponent for his final moment as his time in life is inevitably draws near.

The reason the padawan didn't died here might be because the elder purposefully avoid giving fatal injury to keep him alive but imobilized. Thus sensing that his padawan still alive but in dire situation diminish the possibility of the Jedi master to do anything but to rescue his padawan with urgency. This is because fighting the Jedi master is what the Elder Sith actually after. He even said that he can sense that the Jedi master is strong, seems showing his fascination to fight a strong worthy opponent.

The Elder sith is also seems critisizing the Siths order in the beginning of the fight. He had no remorse when defeated or try to do any dirty act as last attempt to kill both the Jedi and the padawan when they lower their guard after stabing him, he just accept it. Instead, as a last act he decide to destroy his ship and turn into dust to erase any leftover of his existence after he died. Which doesn't sounds like what an Elder Sith that confident 100% about his power and sure he will be able to defeat his opponent will do, but more sounds like what someone who know he will die in the fight do.

In my opinion he is like an old dying monster. Very powerful, prideful and life for nothing but to be powerful and fight. But alas, he cant beat time, his peak already passed him by. Thus along with his prideful nature to his own power, he rather died in a fight with a worthy skillfull Jedi than died of old age as his final moment. As in his realization that time will only slowly take away his power, there is no more meaning in his life. Because he live only for the sake of power and himself. Thus death while still able to fight is the only option left for him.

This is quite a juxtaposition to the Jedi master who live not only for himself and making sure his power, knowledge, and value passed into next generation through his padawan and then his padawan's padawan, and so on; Thus even though the Jedi will also inevitably died just like the elder sith, he won't fully vanish into nothingness but live onto the next generation through his teachings and keep stronger and stronger that way.

This one felt like
"I want to make a story about Obi-Wan and Qui Gon."
"No, you can't do that."
"Okay, I'll make a story about ...Dan....and....Tajin."
"Okay, who are they?"
"They're Obi-Wan and Qui Gon."
"Brilliant!"

This was top 3. I loved the relationship of the master and apprentice, kind of like Qui Gon and Obi Wan.

The Elder was basically the Sith version of those Mandalorian raiders in KOTOR who deserted the Mandalorian army before it got destroyed by the Jedi. They took what they learned from their faction before their side lost to the Jedi, and used it to go hunting random prey. A bunch of those deserter Mandalorians ran off to hunt Wookiees and Rakatans, this guy went off hunting random enemies until he bumped into these two Jedi.

This was one of my favorite episodes. I got major High Republic vibes from this one.

I love this version of Star Wars . Anime and Star Wars fits so nicely . The one shot format is dope too . I watch a lot of anime one shots . But I’m sure one or two of these ideas might make it to a series .

this master is like Qui Gon Gin and the apprentice is like Obi Wan. his style of powerful attacks definitely resembles the physically imposing QGG

This episode seems to be set before The Phantom Menace, but maybe after the High Republic. Possibly towards the end of the High Republic era. If there was no evidence of the Elder being a Sith, it could actually fit into canon too.

Jordan Fisher is too talented, just maybe not with a lightsaber ;)

This was probably the weakest of the bunch. Didn't really impress on a writing or visual level sadly.
