In this Parisienne Walkways guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of this classic Gary Moore ballad off of his 1979 album, Back On The Streets.
Gary Moore is in full force with this one playing in his trademark soaring slow blues style. In fact, I would say that Gary Moore is definitely one of my favorite soloists of all time. Especially in his more bluesy playing.
From the opening melody, the guitar playing is just stunning. It is a gorgeous melody that follows the underlying chord progression beautifully. It is one of those melodies where, as soon as you hear it for the first time you will never forget it.
For his part, Gary Moore uses a multitude of guitar techniques throughout the song in an effort to alter the dynamics or phrasing of the melody. Within just the short intro solo we have bends, slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs. We also have a little rake thrown in there for good measure.
As with just about anything played by Gary Moore, a healthy vibrato on any of the sustained notes can really help this melody sing. This isn't the easiest thing in the world to do especially when you are trying to apply vibrato to a note that is bent into pitch.
I will go through the entire song, including the arpeggiated chord progressions in the order that each section appears on the original recording.
Have fun with this one! #parisiennewalkwaysguitarlesson #garymoore #guitarcovers
