Amazing! Great video! I was searching for an Indian English pronunciation video like this some months ago (or years?), but there aren't many around here and I didn't find anyone as clear and systematic as this. The reason of my search is that I have some Indian friends here in Mexico who speak this variant of the English language and I had some trouble to understand them when I first met them. Excellent. Thanks. Your video was very useful, as I prepare to teach Indian nurses. You mentioned that rhythm and intonation vary depending on the speaker's native language but it would be nice to hear a couple of examples, perhaps of Hindi speakers, as this is also a noticeable feature of Indian English pronunciation. The accent is distinctive and beautiful: my only concern is if and when it may cause difficulties of understanding. I think some vowel sounds may feature here. My wife is a non-English speaker and this is the biggest area of misunderstanding.

Well, at least you did not mock us. It was a constructive feedback. I also realized that as long as I live in India I can speak only Indian English, a mutant language of British English. I see nothing to be ashamed. Inside India we, people of different languages and dialects, comminicate in this English. Infact, when fellow Indians use artificial American accent we feel awkward here.

Slight correction, 2:45 In Indian English only the dipthongs represented by a single letter are converted into monothongs.
So the word 'open' for example which begins with a dipthong would be pronounced with a monothong in Indian English.
But 'they are' would be pronounced with a dipthong and not a monothong unless the person uses a rhotic Indian accent

useful info, thnaks. Although the pronunciation and some of the differences maybe weren’t on point, you definately made some good points.

Tbh, the slang isn’t unnoticable. Rather Pakistani/Indian speakers would maybe use more posh words rather than what we’re used to. Because their English comes from textbooks etc, they rnt used to the colloquial words to be used in right contexts.

But it generally isn’t too hard to udnerstand. If u like in Bham, London, Bradford, or anywhere not fully non-ethnic in UK then almost everyone knows the accent

When I went to college in the US, students think of the Indian teaching assistants' English and accent as the horrible Indian gibberish and the horrible Indian noise. American undergrad students hated having Indians and Chinese teaching assistants as they find it hard to listen to and understand what they were saying.

Indian English is not the second most common variety of English. We have American, Canadian, British, Australian, South African English before. I grew up in Toronto, Canada and I am watching your video because I am an English teacher.

This video was so interesting!!! I've never heard how Indian English is pronounced before. I wouldn't want to be impolite but according to my point of view, Indian English sounds absolutely awful, unbearable and unfamiliar due to an obvious reason, we never hear the Indian English pronunciation. Moreover, it seems another language instead of English. It's not a misconception of mine but in the Western World we're always too used to American English or British English, Indian English is completely unfamiliar for us, you know. I'm just saying what I think and analyze, it's the truth.
