As a collector of omnibus comics what you want to do if you don't want to store flat is take some foam board from the dollar store and cut a piece so the paper rests on it. That will stop what we call page sage and tearing from the binding. Hope that helps!

No ideas, but they also recommend storing the Leatherbounds this way for that reason as well

Cut out a shim to go under the pages to support them while vertical. Should relieve the strain from the binding. Never done this but I assume it would work

Just because i librarian suggests what best doesn’t mean you should do so! There’s what called book binding. And most librarians are not book binders.
So listen to actual advice on how to store your hardbacks adequately from a bookbinder.

The trick is soooo simple and no one think about it. It’s nothing to with how you store a book and hardbacks especially in your shelf!
It’s how you handle it when you read. When you holding the book the binding will stretch and the elasticity will obviously tear. The binding isn’t made of magic it’s real fibre attached with glue and other adhesive properties. Your handling your books or the books that have there pages separating from the actual bond because when in your hands your most likely pulling the book both left side and right side further than it needs to go. If not the other reason is you’ve had a book places moderately close to a heat source or too much of a cold environment which can also breakdown the adhesive components of the binding.
The last one is smoking! If you smoke near your books you don’t need me to tell you that your crisp white pages turn yellow but the breakdown it causes in the glue of the spine cracks. And then more oxygen breaks into those gaps and again. Breaks all the ingredients that make the glue and the bone.

So please please please do not listen to librarians they don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 hope this helps
