I've reviewed dozens of boots, and there are some which I'd never recommend to anyone. In this list I give you the boots to avoid in 2024, and what to buy instead.

BEST OF THE BEST (affiliate links):

Reviews of high quality workwear, boots, and clothing for men to help you own better and own less. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to own less and own better.

I've been wearing Red Wings for 40 years. I'm a industrial maintenance mechanic, so my boots have to be electrical rated with a composite toe.
The company gives a $100 annual shoe allowance, which I use about every 2 years. I buy a pair and they are my "dress" boot for about 2 years, then I rotate them to my work boot, bring my work boots home and use them for my outdoor boot until they give up the ghost. Usually 3 or 4 years. Then I may cut the leather up for other things.
I also have a pair of Red Wing pole climbers that I've been using as motorcycle boots for 30 years. They've been re soled twice and still going strong.

I can attest to Thursdays. I bought a pair of President lace ups in 2017 and they have been through snow, sand, rain, sun, and college in those 7 years. Didn’t even condition them that well either. Today, they still look amazing and have a nice patina. I’m still getting compliments on them as well.

I switched to redwing about 10 years ago and havn't needed anything else. I've had one pair for a few years and got another to wear while it's being resoled. The trick is to special order out of the catalog, Everyrhing in store is stored for 6 months before it even hits the shelves and falls apart quick.

My work boots changed from steel toe to dress boots about 8 years ago. I picked up a pair of Thursday boots. They're still going strong on the second sole. My wife has 3 pairs as well and loves them. They are very high quality at a great price for what you get.

Ever since 2016 I've been getting a pair of BATES 8 inch Tactical Sport boots. Replace them every 1-2 years when the exterior leather is scarred up. Good comfortable boots, for someone with flat feet. Walk 9+ miles a day in them, doing security.

Glad I saw this video. I've seen a bunch of ads for Portland Leather boots and was looking at a pair. Guess I won't be looking at those anymore though.

2 pairs of Thursday boots and I really like them.Just sometimes it’s a tight fit and I don’t even have wide feet.

I have Dr. Martins I got in 2006 that I've worn basically every day and I still wear them basically every day. It's now 2024.

Been wearing Wolverine for a while now. I'm close to 400Lbs and stand on concrete all day. The soles only last a year or so, but they don't break the bank either.

I love Keens. I don’t see any need to change, they’ve served, & still serve me well.

My go to daily work boot is the Double H Dwight Steel Toe. Best pair I’ve found for my feet. Boot is durable as all get out, and made here in the US (UFCW 1776). I’ve probably had the pair for well over two years on the original soles, meanwhile my buddy has gone through three pairs of Cody James comp toe boots.

I own two pairs of Doc Martens and one pair of Solovairs. The l Solovairs are my work boots and the Docs are my going out boots. If you were looking for a pair of work boots that will last a long time Doc Martens are definitely not what you want to buy. The Solovairs are much more durable and are full leather construction with no insulative layer to soak up sweat and nastiness, they are light, comfortable and easy to wear for a workday. I disagree that Doc Martens are a terrible boot to buy though, because I have never found another pair of footwear (any footwear, including sneakers and walking shoes) that are as comfortable for walking long distances as Doc Martens with the Air Wair soles. Solovairs are uncomfortable after walking 3 miles, I have done 30 miles in one day in my Docs and my feet felt like I could've done another 30. Neither pair of boots is "bad" but they have different strengths and weaknesses like any other footwear. If you're having a bad experience maybe you're wearing them for the wrong reasons

Thorogood wedge sole are some of the most comfortable boots that I have wore right out of the box.

I'm glad that, after the last 20 years, people are FINALLY getting the fact that Doc Martens are no longer what they once were, and that SOLOVAIR is the way to go (for more reasons than what was pointed out here).
I still wish I had my Cherry Red 14 hole steel toed Docs from the 90s. I could get them resoled for free at the Doc store downtown for life. So much for that now

So glad you mention brunt. Absolute garbage. Makes me mad when you see fake reviews saying they are so much better than the established brands. They aren’t good at making boots, but they are good at social media marketing
