For all the people saying he forgot the Monkey King: He is actually a fictitonal character from a very ancient book, he was never revered like a god. It's like adding Robin Hood to a list of most successful thieves or King Arthur to a list of most powerful rulers.

Guan-yin is a bodhisattva (kinda like a Buddha-in-training), originally a male, occasionally thought as genderless or both.

There are 4 Dragon Kings, and Jade Emperor is only the head of the governing body in heaven, not "ruler of the universe."

Very cool! I was looking for a fun, balanced, and not too complicated compilation of gods/goddesses from Chinese mythology to show my Sunday school 3rd and 4th graders. After watching a ton of videos, I found this one! They are mostly accurate (keeping in mind that there are different legit versions) and a good source of knowledge and enjoyment. Thank you so much!
P.S.: A pronunciation thing you might want to have a post-clip explaining it (the money god's name is not pronounced as "Kai-shin" (happy), it's "tsai-shen" (tsai is money, shen is god).

Guan Yin aka Avalokitesvara (name in sanskrit) is actually the most powerful as She is a Bodhisattva and not a goddess. Bodhisattvas and Buddhas are way above these deities. As deities still have defilements while Buddhas and Bodhisattvas doesn't get chained by mental defilements anymore, hence already reached enlightenment, the highest of all. Even the jade emperor is below Guan Yin. And a research on how to pronounce those

Can you do a Top 10 list on obscure Gods? Ones that are mentioned in history like once or twice but who's stories have seemingly been lost to time? I read about "Adephagia", who was said to be the Greek Goddess of Gluttony, but aside from a temple in Sicily, there isn't much info about her left over from that time.

I'd say that all these gods are widely know among the Chinese, but a few of them aren't really worshipped or acknowledged at all by most Chinese populations. Nüwa/Fuxi, Yan Wang, Chang'E, most/all of the eight immortals, Zhi Nü and Niu Lang, and the Queen Mother of the West are all not widely worshipped. Long Wang can be found in several temples, but there aren't any holidays that really celebrate him/them (there are four 'Dragon Kings' for each significant water surrounding ancient China) and he certainly isn't found in home shrines very often.

Some gods who were left out, but who are still very popular among Chinese today include: Mazu (Mother Goddess, patron of fishermen and cities near the sea) Guan Yu (patron of policemen, military, businessmen), Wen Chang Dijun (god of culture, knowledge..often prayed to by students before exams), Yue Lao (the matchmaker god), and Tu Di Gong (the land god; every property, neighborhood and village has a Tu Di Gong and this tradition lives on well in Taiwan where you'll see little shrines for him literally everywhere...not so much in mainland China of course).

Hello Jim, Izzie here to give a few ideas for another mythology video (or two) ... (or more). I've only recently started watching your channel, so I don't know if you have done these already:
Egyptian mythology (please use clicks from the mummy movies for this :D)
Nordic mythology
Roman mythology
Greek mythology (saw another mention in the comments)

Within all of these there are many topics to choose from, not just top 10 gods. Love the channel so far
