I just ordered one... your test is exactly what I wanted to see done. I think it needs the "dead" battery to supply power enough to trip a relay inside the unit. But your test proves what I was afraid of, if your existing battery has a "short" and is 100% shot/dead, I don't think this jumper will do any good. But if your battery is just severely weak, as in no cranking amps, but voltage/amps enough to close the relay, this jumper is perfect.

I’m using it since years, when the battery is weak, I use Autovit, always, until I find time and place to replace. It easily starts 5.7 petrol in 1 shot, even at 90%. But yes the battery must not be dead, and at least above 7 or 8 volts. Procedure, after charge, press the red button, turn the car key, and crank the car, ( for button start press car button twice). Start the car within 10 seconds of pressing the red button. Blown lots of money on lithium ion Jump starts which when not used for a couple of months gets useless and need trashing. Complete peace of mind after buying autovit. But don’t buy hybrid( capacitor with battery) not tested.

Read the book. Clamp leads on weak battery - when it reads 100% press the red button then you have 10 seconds to start the engine. I have used mine about 20 times on cars in the neighborhood. Starts every time. If the dead battery is totally dead - use a phone USB charger or even a solar charger to charge the Autowit.

What's the difference between the first model and the second model of autowit? Also is it 6000MAH
