Ukraine wants security guarantees (NATO membership) and has no interest in stopping the war, letting Russia rebuild their army and invading again 2 or 3 years later. As long as this is not acceptable for Putin, Trump can try two things:

1. Threaten Ukraine with stopping all military aid to force them to accept a deal without security guarantees. I don’t think this will work. Zelenskyy will rather turn to Europe and try with domestic production to continue fighting.
2. Threaten Putin to accept a deal with NATO membership by MASSIVELY increasing military aid otherwise. I don’t think this will work either.

Trump does not have the backbone for this, Putin will try nuclear blackmail.

The only way the war can come to an end is one side collapsing and being physically unable to continue. The question is which side collapses first.
