Nvidia has a new feature where you can find UPSCALE videos IN YOUR BROWSER. Twitch, YouTube, and so on! It's insane how well this new tech can improve video on different platforms, but it has its downfalls. This video covers a few different scenarios and how well it does!

In defense of NVIDIA, this is still in beta and its not train well enough for human face in low quality samples but when i tested it on a 480p vid without any human face i couldnt believe my eyes it was perfect. It almost looked like a 1080p vid to me and i love it. 100/10 Would recommend.

This really needs a simple on/of toggle directly built into video players. I've been waiting for it just for Sons Of The Forest VODs and am overall really happy with it in this regard, but it just looks so so so bad in camera videos.

All we need now is to let it smart compress the videos so we can smart uncompress the video at home to preserve more detail to begin with

Nice, this feature is definitely gonna be useful for some videos. Probably won't look good on every video and it also depends on how the user likes that AI look, but with more work it could definitely turn more heads

what this really does is improve stream qualities alot. it normalizes alot of streaming video I've done tests watching to the point you can't tell too much difference if someone is on a lower bitrate or res or not.

Here some my testing using 1080p monitor on rtx 3050

1. Old video from 90s dont get any boost at all, if the source lacking detail there's almost no scaling at all
2. Anime and 3d cartoon runs great with this you can see the difference just by using 360p
3. 144p and 240p seems not working at all or too low, need 360p min to work, using 144p and 240p will result in screen tearing / artifacts masking
4. The load in watt is varied scene by scene, on level 4 quality the gpu power draw jumps from 8 to 24watt on my rtx 3050 with max 130w so it eats around 20% of gpu capabilities
5. Quality 2 vs 4 the difference is very minor but is there if you zoom but for watching qualitg 2 is fine
6. Quality 2 vs 4 is averaging 18watt vs 24 watt in my rtx 3050 around 6 watt different

The rule is what upscaling tech based, a minimal detail / pixel required to enhance the quality

Hopefully nvidia also does MEMC function too 120fps for anime and 3d cartoon is very great

as someone who uses mobile data for internet i see this as absolute win.

It over-smooths skin in motion and gives everything a bit of a painterly look to it similar to applying a make up filter on your phone. Hopefully over time they improve this like they do with DLSS and they can work on this sort of issue.

But honestly, I'm gonna use this feature watching Twitch because it works wonders.

For Twitch streams it's a game changer, but at the moment my RTX 3090 uses 270W when watching Twitch fullscreen @ 1440p. That's a lot of power...

tried with ms edge browser, works very well on movie streaming with lower resolutions, its not like magic but much much sharper and cleaner picture. i am impressed

Any recommendations for a video player that also does this? I have older home movies and would love to see them upscaled to 4k quality. I do know that vlc and kmplayer can upscale with help I think.

Did it with chrome and looks no different

Agree, this needs a dedicated toggle buton.

Not a bad idea for shows i used to watch in the 1990's on YouTube like Games World or Games Master, I'm Downloading it now, thanks for explaining it!

As a long time user of MadVR for up scaling to 4k. I called it back when VSR was first announced that AI ain't going to magically make low bitrate video on the internet become 'high quality'
The difference between VSR level 4 and off on is quite subtle as i expected (slight improvement, exactly the same as upscaling with madvr). Work best with animations.

Result is nothing like the black magic video 'Introducing RTX video super resolution" by nvidia. It is a nice little bonus feature to have but you aren't really missing out on much if you don't access to it.

High quality source no upscaling > Low quality source with upscaling

VSR is a good alternative to MadVR if you don't need Tonemapping.

motion interpolation should be an option too.. i know some don't like it but some do..

i keep mine at 2. i have a 3080, setting it to four seemed to keep the VRAM hovering at 80c for no reason

I've updated my nvidia driver, my Chrome browser is up to date, super resolution is enabled in the settings, and it doesn't do anything. Both video quality and GPU power usage remain the same whether it's on or off. (My native resolution is 1440p, and my GPU is 3060 Ti.)
